  • IDE DVD Writer shown as SCSI/RAID on EP45-DQ6

    Morning all,

    My IDE DVD drive isnt working properly and is showing up as a SCSI/RAID drive on my system.

    Specs are:-

    Win XP 32 SP3
    GA-EP45-DQ6 F12 Bios
    2 x 160gb HD plugged into YELLOW SATA's (none RAID)
    1 x Pioneer DVR-111D Writer plugged into IDE Port

    Initially it was shown as a SCSI in programs such as IMGBURN. I read that it was a problem with the Jmicron JMB36x Controller which controls IDE getting confused so i updated the driver using the latest R1.17.50_WHQL_Writecachedisabled from here:-

    ftp://driver.jmicron.com.tw/jmb36x/XP_Vista_Win7/

    I used the writecachedisabled version as that's what some else used with a similar setup to me.

    This did nothing but change the Drive from SCSI to RAID in IMGBURN etc.

    So i then uninstalled all devices under IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers to force Windows to find and reinstall them on reboot. Windows found them fine but the DVD Drive is still set as RAID and wont let me browse any media in it.

    I think its in PIO mode and dotn know how to change it to DMA. Settings in the Primary/Secondary IDE Channels under Device Manager show 'DMA if available' selected?

    I am in no way in the know about things like this and was wondering if anyone knows how to get my Writer setup properly so i can start burning disks.

    FYI, couple of settings in my BIOS which may be affecting this:-

    SATA RAID/AHCI Mode ......................Disabled
    Sata port0-3Native Mode................... Disabled(i think)
    Onboard SATA/IDE Ctrl Mode ..............Enabled

    Thanks for an help, apologies if ive missed out any info needed.

    My Pioneer 112D is the only IDE device on my system.
    The jumper is set to MASTER and it uses the MASTER IDE cable connector.
    No problems on my rev:1.0 EP45-UD3P mobo.

      Hmmm, my Pioneers the only thing on IDE, has the Jumper set to Master (far right prongs) and is also on the Master connector on my IDE cable...still having trouble. Would Cable Select Jumper settings change anything?

        It wouldn't hurt to try cable select.
        Can you borrow another cd/dvd drive to test with?

          Re: IDE DVD Writer shown as SCSI/RAID on EP45-DQ6

          The Pioneer is a replacement to a Lite-on Writer which was having the similar problems... it wasnt writing properly especially on Dual Layer disks so i tried the Pioneer and that is doing the same.

          I searched a little deeper and came to the conclusion is was the JMicron Controller but im not having any luck sorting the problem.

          Cheers.

            Maybe it would be better standard ide controller driver instead jmicron drivers

              Possibly, whats the easiest way to uninstall the JMicron drivers and just set it to standard IDE controller drivers.

              Sorry if that's a bit of a thick question im still learning...

                Re: IDE DVD Writer shown as SCSI/RAID on EP45-DQ6

                I don't recall if the Jmicron sata drivers will show up in the add/remove programs list.
                Check the windows Device Manger IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers and see if there are any entries other than Primary IDE Channel, Secondary IDE Channel and Standard Dual Channel PCI IDE Controller.

                If there's any doubt, list the Device Manager entries.
                Are you using the most recent Intel Inf Install drivers? (v:9.1.1.1019)

                  Re: IDE DVD Writer shown as SCSI/RAID on EP45-DQ6

                  It doesnt show up in Add/Remove Progams.

                  The headings in IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers are something like:-

                  Intel ICH10 2 port Serial ATA Storage Controller - *a number*
                  Intel ICH10 4 port Serial ATA Storage Controller - *a number*
                  Primary IDE Channel
                  Primary IDE Channel
                  Secondary IDE Channel
                  Secondary IDE Channel

                  There's no 'Standard Dual Channel PCI IDE Controller' there.

                  Not sure about the Intel Inf Install drivers, how do i check what version ive got at the moment.

                  Thanks for your help.

                    Check both "Intel ICH10" device manager entry properties, click on the DRIVERS tab and report the driver file names, version numbers etc.

                    Check for c:\Program Files\Infinst\Readme.txt
                    On my system the first lines are:

                    * Date: August 19 2008

                    I know I'm not running the most recent version, but my system ain't broke so I don't fix it ;)

                      I'll be able to check and post that in a bit as im at work at the moment...put i can say with a degree of accuracy that im probably running out of date drivers .

                      Will an up to date driver fix my problem? I take it you can download this straight from Intel somewhere...

                            It might help others if you note the driver file versions before and after you do the updated inf install.
                            Good luck.

                              Driver Provider: Intel

                              Driver Date: 25/02/2008

                              Driver Version: 9.0.0.1005

                              2) Intel ICH10 Family 4 port Serial ATA Storage Cont 1 - 3A20

                              Driver Provider: Intel

                              Driver Date: 25/02/2008

                              Driver Version: 9.0.0.1005

                              Detail in the InfInst readme.txt =

                              ************************************************** **
                              * Product: Intel(R) Chipset Device Software
                              * Release: Production Version
                              * Version: 9.0.0.1007
                              * Target Chipset#: Intel(R) 4 Series Chipset
                              * Date: March 26 2008
                              ************************************************** **

                              Right i might be being a bit n00bish but i cant install the new intel drivers. I extract them and click the setup, it runs through but the drivers are he same version afterwards. Looking in the readme it say for installation after an OS is installed you need to put the drivers on a floppy disk and install from there...i dont have a floppy drive...?
