  • Bios freezes when altering boot order

So i currently have windows 7 32bit and im trying to do a clean install of 64bit. Since Ive been told a clean install is needed I figured I would be unable to install it through windows, so i attempted to boot from disk in the bios (my equip is in sig). As soon as the options come up the screen freezes. Can anyone tell me what the culprit might be? Im alex btw, and im new around here.

I am lost, what are you trying to uninstall?

To do a clean install simple put in the cd, boot from it using F12 at bootup and choose CD, then format the drive and install.

Connect your OS Drive to the first Blue Intel SATA port (SATA2_0) and then set your BIOS how you want for IDE mode (Normal SATA) or AHCI

    Normal SATA mode
    Integrated Peripherals

    Intel Controller (Yellow Ports)
SATA RAID/AHCI Mode (Intel ICH10R Southbridge) ............. Disabled
SATA Port0-3 Native Mode ................................... Enabled (or Disabled, both will work)

    AHCI
    Integrated Peripherals

    Intel Controller (Yellow Ports)
SATA RAID/AHCI Mode (Intel ICH10R Southbridge) ............. AHCI
SATA Port0-3 Native Mode ................................... Enabled (or Disabled, both will work)

These settings do not matter, and can be disabled if you are not using the White ports for anything, or using any IDE Ribbon cable devices.

    Integrated Peripherals

    Gigabyte/J.Micron Controller (Purple Ports)
Onboard SATA/IDE Device (GIGABYTE SATA2 Chip) ............. Enabled
Onboard SATA/IDE Ctrl Mode (GIGABYTE SATA2 Chip) ........... IDE

Re: Bios freezes when altering boot order

my issue is the boot menu in bios. When i press f12 and the options for what device i want to boot from comes up the screen freezes right there, i cant even move the cursor over a different device. I was wondering if anyone else had this problem or if you had an idea of what could be causing the bios to freeze? thanks again for any incite you can provide

furthermore, is there is any other way to boot from disk outside of the bios? Like if i make a recovery disk, pop it in, wont it send me to bios and ask for os disk and give me the option to clean insall there?

yeah i mean as soon as i open that menu the screen freezes befor i can move to a different device with the arrow keys. Ill try unplugging the hard drive tonight. If i do so should it try to boot from optical drive by default, or are you saying that might keep the screen from freezing at boot menu?

Re: Bios freezes when altering boot order

What you can do is set the CD as the first boot device in the advanced BIOS page

Then you wont need the F12 menu as long as the disk is bootable and the CD Player is functioning.

This may be caused by your keyboard, it's USB right? If so be sure you have enabled USB Keyboard support in the BIOS, if you do have this enabled your keyboard just may not be compatible fully with this BIOS. If this is the case you will need to either use a PS/2 keyboard or USB to PS/2 adapter to access DOS based menus such as the F12 menu

If im thinking the same as you, enter your BIOS and be sure the USB keyboard fucntion in enabled. Right when i got my board - same as yours - it did the same thing. You talking about the boot order menu with like 10 items correct?

O snap- just seen that LSD- do what he says.
