  • EP45-DS3L memory slot 1 causes multiple beeps at POST

Whenever i install a module into memory slot one, the yellow socket closest to the CPU the computer will beep multiple short beeps (23 or 24 beeps) and does not boot up.

In the red slot the machine will boot up without any issue.

    Is my mobo faulty?

sometimes you have to install in one coloured slots, like on my board it will only boot up in the white slots and not the blue, but with all the ram slots filled it will boot up too

      But is this normal?

      The slots are labeled DDR2_1, DDR2_2, DDR2_3, DDR2_4.

If i try to use DDR2_1, it does not boot. I would think if I only use one slot, it should be DDR2_1?

I'm experiencing some instability issues also, so i'm wondering if my Mobo is faulty.

If you can't boot with single stick in slot 1 nor with 2 sticks in slots 1 & 3, but you can boot with single stick in slots 2,3,4 and 2 sticks in slots 2 & 4 than slot 1 is probably faulty.

I havent tested slots 3 and 4 by themselves, but everything else sounds exactly like what i'm experiencing.

I wonder if it's worth getting it replaced under warranty.. i'll probably never use that slot, but i'm concerned it might have something to do with the instability issues i've been experiencing.

Fill your system specs in your forum signature, including board rev, BIOS vers. a link to your memory specs or at least part number, CPU, etc. and we may be able advise changes for stability.

EDIT: also a screen capture of MemSet main(click >>) and spd(click spd) windows may help, you can find MemSet in http://forums.tweaktown.com/f69/late...30/#post284762

Re: EP45-DS3L memory slot 1 causes multiple beeps at POST

Did you take the screen capture with only one memory stick installed?
Have you made any changes in BIOS M.I.T section yet? If you have please post your settings using the template from this post, delete any entries that are not applicable to your board.
If you did not load BIOS optimized defaults please do so and then apply any changes you made.

On OCZ site the ram is rated 2.1-2.2v, depending on the specs on the sticker, it may use some more DRAM Voltage,

For more than 1x2GB memory configurations MCH Core 1.2-1.24 is usually needed, in less common cases less is needed in the range 1.05-0.95v.
I recomend the changes to optimized defaults below:
                Code:
                DRAM Performance Control
                Performance Enhance ------------------- : [Standard]
                Extreme Memory Profile --- (X.M.P.) --- : [Profile1] <<< or Profile1 which ever you have

                Channel [B]A & B[/B] Timing Settings [[B]Press Enter[/B]]
                Channel [B]A & B[/B]
                Static tRead Value --------------------- : [8] <<< the lowest possible likely 6 or 5

                MCH/ICH
                MCH Core ---------------- 1.10V ------- : [1.20] <<< try 1.20 to 1.24 first, then 1.05 to 0.95

                DRAM
                DRAM Voltage ------------ 1.80V ------- : [Auto] <<< auto or 2.06 to 2.2
Check PC Health for DRAM Voltage, check MemSet(main window) standard timing and tRFC match EPP#2
Run a few passes of memtest86+ before running Windows.
An 8+ hours of Prime95 blend torture is recomended to ensure stability.
