  • Windows 7 Home Prem. services continuously stopping and re-starting

This problem isn't likely particular to the Gigabyte board...but it may be, thought'd I'd try here and see if anyone else has seen this problem.

    I am running Win7 Home Premium (clean install, fully updated) on a new Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3P (rev. 1.6), Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU E8500 @ 3.16GHz, and 4 GB G.Skill Ram at DDR2 800Mhz.

Recently, I have had an issue where network connectivity is gone, and I lose access to most services (i.e., they are still running, but I can't ping them or get information from them, like I normally can). A reboot fixes everything. There are no crashes, and no system error messages. A memory test reveals no problems.

The only thing I can get from the Windows Logs is that certain services keep stopping and re-starting, including the Applicant Experience service, the Windows Installer Service, the Volume Shadow Copy service, and the Multimedia Class Scheduler service. The services seem to stop and restart every 10-30 minutes, and eventually, I lose all network connectivity and access to other services. It's usually about 2-3 days from boot-up, to finally losing network connectivity and other services.

The Services snap-in lists all services as "running," even after losing network connectivity and access to other services.

Has anyone ever seen this? I've attached a bit of the system logs below...

    Thanks!

A bit of an old network driver, there's a newer version in http://forums.tweaktown.com/f69/late...30/#post284763 you may want to try it.

Re: Windows 7 Home Prem. services continuously stopping and re-starting

I did not make any changes to the way the services start.

I've gone ahead and removed all of the Windows 7 hotfixes and security updates...and now the only service that is starting and stopping all the time is the Application Experience service.

I also haven't experienced any system service lockups yet...

I'll give it another day or two of uptime, then start re-adding hotfixes and security updates one by one...

Yes, very similar behavior as if I would disconnect the network plug. But its not just the network I lose...I run the SageTV recorder service, and it keeps recording, but I can't ping it to get show/recording info. anymore once the services "go down." It's very strange.

NOthing in the router/modem log...I can use my laptop to get internet access via WiFi just fine...

                  Bios: Just updated to FC.

I think so. I updated to bios FD, re-installed the newest DES Advanced, and uninstalled microsoft update KB976098.

This seems to have fixed my issues. It definitely seems more related to the Microsoft updates than anything else. I played around with uninstalled all updates, then re-installing one by one. The '098 seems to be either the culprit, or a culprit in addition to some other part of my system.

That's odd to see, as that is only a Time update. I would suspect the reinstall of DES and BIOS update helped more, did you reinstall that update again and retest to be sure it was causing your issues? You could be right, I just wondered

I do recommend if you do not use DES, or your overclock, that you uninstall this program
