  • EP 45 DS3R and Quad 9300 overclocking help

    Good morning,
After reading and reading the plethora of useful information on this forum, I have decided to take my 1st step into overclocking my system.

After following a set of settings found here on a similar system, i now get a red error message in the bios, warning about the system being overclocked.

Furthermore, CPU-Z does not recognize the "new" CPU speed, but rather the original (stock) performance.

I have tried to paste my BIOS setting in this thread, but I am told it is too large.

I hope you can land a hand to this newbie,

Thanks in advance for your guidance,

    Alex

Re: EP 45 DS3R and Quad 9300 overclocking help

After all the reading you must know we need more details to make any educated advise.
Read this post, follow steps 1-4 for providing the required info and we'll try to advise as best wen can.

I can see one possible problem with your ram. Lowest multiplier is 2(1:1) so you will be limited to memory OC capabilities.

      Hi,
      Thanks for trying to help....
The screen shot required are below, however, I cannot post the BIOS setting since I'm told that they are over 30,000 characters and they need to be under 10,000 ......(what am I doing wrong here?)

Re: EP 45 DS3R and Quad 9300 overclocking help

I assume you are running 7.5 multiplier @ 333 MHz FSB which make your ram as Chike says limits you OC ability. Given that your Ram is already at it rated speed without over clocking anything. You could possibly get a small overclock but not much to make that much difference IMO.

You may want to consider purchasing some DDR2 1066 memory.

After looking at your settings you say you have FSB @ 400 FSB and a 2.66B strap for a memory speed of approx 1064 MHz, so I can see why this doesn't work. You could try @ a 2.00B or 2.00D strap for a memory speed of 800MHz, which is about a 20% OC of your memory. Can it handle it?

Don't paste the template in word or other format, just as plain text, notepad is just enough for editing them.
Memory in MemTest SPD is different than what you have in your signature, it's a DDR-800(PC2-6400) and should hold up to 400FSB and some more.
Set manual settings suggested in that link, you can begin with setting them to the target valuess shown for them by EaesyTune.

Yeah.....I was only looking to get to around 3.0Ghz from 2.5Ghz.....not sure if that is considered a little or a lot....

I will skip the RAM upgrade......If I upgrade anything, it will be a i7 CPU/Mobo/Ram combo.....

              Thanks,
              Alex

Re: EP 45 DS3R and Quad 9300 overclocking help

                      Great, the past worked..

So, these are the setting that i set-up under a separate BIOS profile. I keep going back into them and adjust as I see/read on forums.

But, it still does not work very well. If I need to use the machine, then I used the "stock" BIOS profile, load those settings, and all is back to normal.

Only once I made a change and it kept on re-wanting to re-boot but never did......so I did a battery pull to re-set the BIOS...

                      Thanks,
                      Alex

Set memory multiplier to 2.00D, leave advanced timings auto for now, increase tRFC if needed, spec is 46 for DDR-800, see how that go.
Not clear if Vcore si default 1.225v or 1.325v, you'f probably need more than default.

EDIT: leave Static tRead Value auto or 11/12 for both channel for now, try to set it lower later.

                          OK, thanks...
                          changed multiplier to 2.00D
tRFC is now 52 (default is 46)
                          Vcore at 1.325v

                          re-booted on the 3rd attempt.....

Any multi reboots are no good, meaning settings did not take and BIOS chose something that works.
At default everything was working OK no multi boots?
Try to go up more with MCH Core up to 1.24v, if no go try to set MCH Core back to 1.1v, DRAM Voltage 1.9v.
