  • GA EP45 UD3R Bios help/guidance

Hi there, new here and to the GA boards so excuse the nature of the post.
As I said I am new to the GA product and to OC in general, but I would like to OC my E8600 to about 3.8-4.0 GHZ. I would also like to use the G Skill DDR2-9600 ram in the setup. I will be using this for Flight Sim X with Accel.
I have also taken the time to include a template of the settings which allowed me to start windows, which I got from the G Skill site.
Sorry if my 1st post was a long 1!
    Doug

Simplified Template For users who may not be sure of anything in the MIT Section

    Re: GA EP45 UD3R Bios help/guidance

    Welcome to the forum.

This post has basic recommendations to run your system at stock settings.
Please follow steps 1 & 2 in the post to provide us with a detailed list of your hardware setup. Adding this list to your forum signature will make it easier for us to help you and it will cut down on errors.

The first thing you should do is to run stress/stability tests with your new system before you start overclocking. I recommend that you start with 8 - 12 full passes using Memtest86+ (v4.x), followed by 10 loops of Intel BurnTest (IBT), with threads = 2 (for core2duo) and the maximum amount of available memory. Monitor your cpu core temperatures using RealTemp or CoreTemp, where you might see temperatures as high as 60 - 70 C or higher.

Continue with an 8- 12 hour (or longer) using Prime95, OCCT, or Orthos.
Post your bios settings (accurately filled in) and a screen-shot with the programs listed in step #4 from the linked to post above.

Getting to 3.90GHz should be relatively easy, with some extra effort, above 4.0GHz should be doable with your hardware setup.

      Re: GA EP45 UD3R Bios help/guidance

Well I read the post with the suggested settings and then tried them, the results were NO WINDOWS.

Then I modified the settings to include the G Skill ones, I was able to start Win7, and ran CPU-Z which showed I was running at 3799 while the ram I believe was running at PC 6400 specs.
I have tried IntelBurn testing at Stress=High and on 5 passes I was successful.
Am including the template so you can see the changes I have made.

Post a screen-shot that includes the programs listed in step #4 from this post.

When you post your bios settings, you should fill in ALL of the settings that are displayed in your bios.
In post #3, you didn't fill in:
