  • EP45-DS3R Baseline and OC questions

    Hi all I am going to start recording the baseline and then overclocking this baby. I want to record the baseline first so I can get the numbers for the baseline and then compare them to the OC of this build. I would like the public to add their comments as well this is a learning experience for all.

    Here are my system specs to start out with.......

    EP45-DS3R SYSTEM INFO ON FEB 13 2010
    SYSTEM SPECS FROM 3DMARK06 utility.
    MOBO=GAEP45-DS3R ver 1 I think? BIOS F10
    CASE=Thermaltake Tsunami Dream
    P.S.=Antec TP3-650
    CPU=INTEL Core2Duo E8400 LGA 775
    RAM=Mushkin 996599 1 x 2GB (Starting with one stick)
    Hard drive=St3500320AS 500 GB SATA2
    DVD=HP DVD1160d
    OS=Win XP SP3 all updates
    Video=BFG Geforce 8800GTS 640MB

    How do I tell the MOBO revision number? All I see is FSB 1600 DDR2 1200 VRD 11.1 support near the main model number on the mobo. There is nothing else I can see to indicate revision number.

    Thanks in advance.....

      Re: EP45-DS3R Baseline and OC questions

      Thanks Professor Jim its the revision 1.0 I am looking at BIOS options and modifying them according to the OC guide in this forum.
      I am having trouble with the HP dvd 1160d again. It has been uninstalled for some time so maybe if I can find the drivers then reinstall, maybe it will work. I can also use the liteon cd dvd too.
      Here is a BIOS template to start out with and maybe I can get some views to help me sort out this baseline of the EP45-DS3R.

        Re: EP45-DS3R Baseline and OC questions

        OK I have saved my baseline to Q Flash and maybe to my USB drive, as mentioned in the OC guide.
        Now its time for a "quickie OC" by changing the Buss speed to 375. I also have some screenshots of the settings too will post more when I get off work...:)
        Just found out that this Hard drive is one of the possible defective drives that needs an update to firmware. Backing up my data now :(
        To the audience did you see what you were looking for? Is there something you wanted to see but did not?

          Re: EP45-DS3R Baseline and OC questions

          Its best if your screen-shots include:
          Memset using the SPD and ">>" tabs
          cpu-z CPU and Mainboard screens (several instances can be run at the same time)
          EasyTune6 --> TUNER tab --> ADVANCE tab --> VOLTAGE tab (only the Voltage tab is needed)
          CoreTemp screen [for your cpu's VID (Voltage ID)]

          To make it easier to read, I suggest that you use the bios template below.
          Code:
          Motherboard: Model:  Rev#:  Bios Version:
          Cpu: Model
          Ram: Brand, Model/Part#, Link to your ram's specs
          Power Supply Unit: Brand, Model#, Wattage

           note: replace all ?? with the value displayed in your bios.
          ----> Replace "Auto" with manually set values.

              Re: EP45-DS3R Baseline and OC questions

              Your screen-shot didn't include the ET6 or CoreTemp window (to show us your standard cpu VID info).

              I suggest that you use the recommended voltage settings in this post as a starting point for your overclocking. Leaving the settings on AUTO will overvolt some settings. The "Normal" settings might not over-volt when overclocking, but we have no idea what settings are applied. Replacing the ???? values in the template with the values displayed in your bios (to the left of the colon) will give us an idea of what the "standard" bios settings are.

              EasyTune6 --> TUNER tab --> ADVANCE tab --> VOLTAGE tab will show us if voltages are OK.

                Yes, here are the requested SS's
                Yes I am working on the other voltage values now.
                UPDATE: 03-14-10 I have finished backing up the system and prepared another drive (80 gig seagate) for Main Install. Updated the BIOS to F11e I believe. After reboot the BIOS did an auto recovery thing so I assumed the worst and reflashed the BIOS with another USB floppy (had trouble seeing the USB (Flashdrive) due to settings change in the BIOS) I reinstalled the system with BIOS set to IDE mode for the hard disk to facilitate any future backups with True image home. or other apps. IDE mode will also allow me to use my SATA DVD optical drive in this system too :] Updating now and reinstalling AV and other scanners. Yes I know I loaded and saved optimized defaults both times...:]
                UPDATE 03-20-10 Updated the onboard NIC using the have disk method but only one LAN got updated. :( Did I update the correct way I wonder? I suppose I could have had the correct driver to begin with during install.

                  Re: EP45-DS3R Baseline and OC questions

                  Here is a BIOS template of where I am right now with voltages inserted, as advised. I had to take time out to reinstall on another disk due to firmware problem on the 500 Gig drive. I have to see if Seagate will RMA that drive now. I also updated the BIOS to the F11e version and upon booting I saw a message the the BIOS was rebuilding or something so I reflashed the BIOS again with a USB floppy. Loaded optimised defaults both times that I flashed, then saved. I also have installed True Image home 10 (latest build) Ther are some problems with True Image seeing drives wboot CD but I have seen that before(possibly a problem w True Image not the board)

                  UPDATE Mar 21-27th Fine tuning windows XP according to the Tweakguide Tweaking companion v4.3 I believe. The areas that I am examining now are Memory optimization, Disk Cache, Icon Cache(added the Max Cached Icons edit) and reset the page file to another drive. I installed Cacheman (trialware 29.00 I think) and am also looking at the Drive optimization chapter. I met the requirements and disabeled the Disk indexing feature on all internal drives(not USB drives ok). Updated .NET to 3.5 and installing SANDRA and Diskeeper.
