  • GA-X58A-UD5 + 930 dissappearing ram

If i leave my computer off for about 4 hours or more.. when I come back only 4 out of 6 gigs will register in bios and obviously xp.

I had this problem about 3 weeks ago.. so i went back to microcenter.. swapped out for another ud5 mobo and ordered a completely different set of ram instead of the ocz i had. I went for G. skill 1600 7-8-7-24 1.5v instead of the ocz which was slower and used 1.65v. Plus the G. Skill has xmp so i figured it might help. Well it was working fine up until a couple of days ago once I flashed my bios from F1 to F5.. which I did (even though it was working fine) to make sure it was compatible with the 930.
If i boot.. let it warm up for a min.. power off.. restart.. everything is fine and i'm almost content doing that since it hauls ass when it's working well.
But it should work fine. So please help.
It does it when it's at stock 2.8 clock or in any overclocked speed.. currently i'm at 4.26ghz so thats what i'll show but it does it in 2.8 as well.

Originally on the first board i check cpu pins twice.. loosened the waterblock to no avail.. this time i was extra extra careful putting it on just in case
My temps are great 30 idle, 55 full tilt.
I probably should flash backwards and see if it still does it.. but I hate that whole process in the first place, so hopefully someone can shed some light. My bet really is F5 bios has an issue since this is my 2nd board and a totally different set of ram.

i would try with a little more qpi voltage,it looks a bit low to me,even though your stable it could be the cause of you losing one stick when cold

        Re: GA-X58A-UD5 + 930 dissappearing ram

it depends on your ram really,if your cpu is stock speed do you set your ram to rated speed or is it at default 1066 in bios? anything from 1.2000 to 1.4000 is safe to use,you shouldnt need any higher than 1.380000 though and i would try 1.30000,just try and see if it solves it if not set it back to 1.26000 or maybe that bios version doessnt support your ram so well as the previous bios

If you're comfortable, I'd be interested to hear if flashing down fixes the problem (out of curiosity).

            Re: GA-X58A-UD5 + 930 dissappearing ram

OK thanks Warren.. I'll try it soon.. unfortunately I've got to use it so i can't let it cool for now but I'll do it as soon as possible.

You meant QPI/VTT voltage and not QPI PLL right?

if that doesn't fix it, I will try downgrading bios.

                Re: GA-X58A-UD5 + 930 dissappearing ram

Don't downgrade to the old BIOS, this is not the problem. It's all in your settings, I'd advise you settings to try but I am not sure where you are now.

Give me your new current settings after you have tried things mentioned above and I will advise back. You may need 1.35-1.45+ QPI/Vtt depending on your timings, uncore, Bclk, and the memory itself.

                  Re: GA-X58A-UD5 + 930 dissappearing ram

Hmm.. i just looked.. in bios it was at 1.335 not 1.26.. not sure where that came from or I overlooked it when i copied the template.. so I set it to 1.3500 and i'll know in the morning.

Still doesn't make sense that when i run this at 2.8ghz it does the same thing.. 1.335 should have been good enough for that.

                    Re: GA-X58A-UD5 + 930 dissappearing ram

1.35 may be enough, maybe not. If you still have issues please give us your new exact settings and we will advise back.

Even at stock CPU speeds you may need 1.35-1.4+ QPI/Vtt, depends on your ram itself and the speed/timings you have set for it.

ok well 1.355 didn't do it.. i just bumped it up another notch like 1.375 i think .. we'll see tomorrow if that solves it.

Is it worth it for all this voltage to be at 1600? (if thats the problem) and should I worry about failure at this voltage? or am i still safe for 24/7 usage?

youll be ok,just keep testing it like that untill it stops doing it and if it doesnt then its something else,id go no higher than 1.4000 for 1600mhz ram, maybe its a bad batch of ram??

I am using 1.4-1.425V QPI/Vtt for 1600-1700Mhz, all depends on your memory, uncore, QPI Speed, timings, and your CPU's IMC of course.

                            Don't be scared of it

Isn't it strange that I get NO memory errors in memtest though.. baffles me really.
