  • EP45T-USB3P/E8600 Stability Problems

I had my Q9650 in this Rig but I couldn't run 4.0GHz so I swaped the CPU's in my RIG's. I thought my E8600 would do it without any problems - I was wrong. I'm currently trying to run 4.05GHz (450x9) - I can pass Memtest86+ v4.0 for 11 hours running my RAM at 1500,1333,and 1200 but I can't seem to get past Prime95. I get a fatal error on the 768K test twice today trying to down clock my RAM to 1200. I also had it stop working when testing RAM at 1500 and 1333 - no errors - just shut down after running the 48K test twice. That's why I dropped my RAM down to 1200 thinking I might get lucky. "NO GO". I'm starting to think the problem is my RAM,MOBO,or ME. Man I need help - any suggestions right or wrong would be appreciated.

Hey wibujo how are you doing?
Mind posting your settings and a the link to your Q9650 thread?
How did the E8600 clocked on the other MB?
This is just first BIOS release maybe things will improve with newer releases.

Chike, How's it goin? Man, I would be doing better if I could just take everything you guy's have taught me and make it work. lol. You all have taught me so much in a short amount of time it's hard to take it all in. LSD helped me with the EP45-UD3P/E8600 setup - HE got me to 4.27GHz - It seemed pretty fast to me. I kind of wished I'd left my E8600 in that RIG. Now that I have my Quad in it I'm going to have a sizzle and burn session with it. "4.0GHz or else". I ordered 2 more fans for it (should be here tomorrow). I want give that Quad a decent chance to survive.lol. Anyway, I'd really like to Get the EP45T-USB3P/E8600 running 4.05GHz and RAM at 1333. It's starting to get warm here and this will be my summer settings. I'm trying to keep my voltages as low as possible. Here's a copy of what I've been working on.(BIOS settings)

        Re: EP45T-USB3P/E8600 Stability Problems

For a start references should be auto not normal also DRAM Termination.
That's the settings you had it at 4.2GHz?
Please post yhe links for both the old E8600 and Q9650 threads for reference.

+1 ^^ set all those ref/terminations you have on normal to auto

Disable XMP, then raise tRD to 8-9 for now until you get this sorted.

Rest looks ok to me, is this 1.35V ram? Can you link to it please and tell us how many GB you are using, thanks.

What is your MCH ref when Vtt is 1.20?

            Re: EP45T-USB3P/E8600 Stability Problems

You guy's are great. I made the adjustments you guy's suggested and ran Prime95 for 2 hours with no errors. It made it past the point where I was having problems. (I know I've got alot of stressing to do). When I disabled "XMP" - suggested settings in BIOS changed - tRD 8 would do a warm reboot but not cold reboot - So I set it to tRD 9 and works fine. MCH Reference is set to .76v when Vtt is set to 1.200v - 0.810v when Vtt is set to 1.280v. I'm running 8GB of RAM and it's recommended voltage is 1.35v. - 1 click up on DRAM voltage is 1.45v - G.Skill gave me the OK to raise it to 1.45v. If you think my RAM should run at a different Frequency or strap please let me know before I start getting serious with the stressing. My main goal is CPU 4.0GHZ and summer settings - I don't care where RAM runs as long as it's not slow.

              Re: EP45T-USB3P/E8600 Stability Problems

Why don't you use the same settings as you had with the Q9650 you had the memory at nearly 1500 with tRD 8.

                Re: EP45T-USB3P/E8600 Stability Problems

Yes more voltage may be needed anyway since you are using more than one kit. You may need 1.4-1.5V

                  Re: EP45T-USB3P/E8600 Stability Problems

Chike/LSD, Sorry sometimes my common sense is lacking when I'm tired. I used most of the BIOS settings I used when my Quad was in this RIG. Standard Timings: 6-7-6-20 - Advanced Timings: 4-5-10-74-5-2 (Had auto set before and XMP was Enabled - now Disabled) - tRD 8 - The only stressing I've so far is IBT Standard ( 28.2 GFlops / CPU 60c / Core 0 56c /Core 1 54c) - IBT Maxium (29.35 GFlops / CPU 63c / Core 0 59c / Core 1 57c ) RAM is running 1500 - 3.33D Strap - 1.45v . Do you think I'm ready to start running Memtest (if necessary) or Prime 95 Blend??? I tryed to install the links to the threads you were asking for - I'm not sure happened. I'll try again.

                    Re: EP45T-USB3P/E8600 Stability Problems

GFlops are great and temperatures are more than fine, I don't see any proplem if you clock the CPU higher.
It's a bit of a mistery why CPU show highr temperature than the cores, maybe the BIOS is not calibrated so well.
Yes run blend 8+ hours, maybe an hour or two small and large first.
Memtest86+ is not much of a stress program and since you already ran IBT you may skip it.
I hope your timing hold, they are quite tight for 1500 but maybe the extra voltage help them.
Maybe you can get it to work at 1600 with the 3.33D multiplier and 480MHz FSB for 4.08GHz with 8.5 multiplier.

Chike, I thought my RAM Timings might be a little tight - Do you have any suggestions??? I'd hate it if I spent alot of time stressing and have it fail 7hrs. and 59 minutes of Prime 95 Blend. My E8600 had the same temp issue on the EP45-UD3P board (CPU and Core temps being different). If you remember my QUAD had the same problem. Do you think I'm putting to much thermal paste on my HSF??? I never had any issues with CPU temps. I'll wait to hear from you before I start stressing. My extra case fans came in today for my Quad RIG - I'm putting them in right now - may be ready for the "sizzle and burn" session tomorrow or the next day. I like the idea - 480 FSB - I'll try that after I get 450 FSB stable. Thanks again

If those are the same timings you had with the quad there is not much difference, only 5MHz FSB so stick with them unless they fail.
The temperatures are more a board issue IMO, CPU temp cannot be higher than the cores.

Since you are tweaking your way along, if you run into issues always post your new settings you are trying when you need further help.

What did you try to install that you are unsure about?
