  • Help With Q9550 + 2x2GB XMS2 + EP45-UD3P

    Hey guys!!!

I have been searching and digging this forum to the last pages and searched almost every single post with q9550 and ud3p and could raise my first OC to 3.4 easily without raising the voltage too much.

but theres something I cant understand and its the fsb x ram frequency... that 1:1 thing...

Is it the system memory multiplier value?

I mean, if I have my CPU Host Frequency at 400x8.5 do I have to use a "D" value like? 2.00 D? So it matches the 400 FSB?

That is not clear at all for me.

Something that is also happening is that I always keep my computer turned on dowloading movies and stuff but everytime I seat on my desk I can see a message on W7 x64 that says that the computer was turned off... I was playing Half Life 2 the other day and a BSOD came up with somethin like DRIVER_ and could not read anything else...

I will show what I have:

    Thank you very much!

1:1 is not needed at all, and it is also not even the best choice anymore.

Anyway, 1:1 is the 2:00 memory multipliers in your BIOS.

Here are the memory/NB strap options/choices

You do not "Have" to use D if you are above 400 FSB, but you may depending on your memory itself or the settings/voltages you are willing to use.

It also may be the optimal choice, I did a few quick tests on that, you can read my findings and thoughts here

I see you are starting with Fail Safe BIOS settings, this is a part of your issue. You need to start with Optimized Defaults, then save/apply/reboot BACK to the BIOS and then set your SATA/Disk settings again, then any other overclock settings you want to try.

I will advise you with optimal settings, but I need you to load optimized first and then try again. If then your new settings do not help post them here for me and I will advise back what to try next

Fail Safe settings as a starting point is likely a huge part of your problems, once you start with Optimized you will have much better luck. So try that, then give me your new current settings and I can advise back.

Also DO NOT Use Auto for Vcore, Vtt (CPU Term), or PLL when overclocking the FSB, Auto can set these WAY to high and kill your CPU. So please fix that as well, set them manually when you start trying again

      Re: Help With Q9550 + 2x2GB XMS2 + EP45-UD3P

Thanks a lot for your answer, at this time I'm using optimized defaults because of the shutdowns, but it keeps shuting down by itself, I could fix the 2 cores issue.

Tomorrow I will come back and finish.

      Thanks again

        Re: Help With Q9550 + 2x2GB XMS2 + EP45-UD3P

Well your above settings are not showing you using optimized defaults, so if you think you are and the above settings are what you are using, you are using Fail Safe.

So be sure to load optimized, then do what all I said above and I will help once you get back tomorrow

No I mean, I have loaded optimzed after that..

I really don't know why the voltage was on auto... I am not that stupid... but for some reason it was..

I have to make some tests with a dual core and a core2duo that are not giving signals and then I will continue working on this.

          Thank you so much.

Ahh ok. So you need to wait a bit before you need more help?

If so, just let us know when you are ready

Thanks a lot! the thing about the tests it was just the VGA cable that was not sending the signal so we thought something was dead inside....

But I'm more than ready with the thing...

I have a question, could you please give me some advice about the voltages... specially these 3

For 3.4Ghz? If so, this should be ok for voltages

                CPU
CPU Vcore….……….........................:Auto << Set yourself, do not leave Vcore, PLL, or Vtt (CPU Term) on auto when overclocking. For 3.4Ghz you may need 1.25-1.38, that should be plenty, but you may need more/less depending on your CPU
                CPU Termination…..... 1.200V*.......:Auto << Set 1.225-1.3
                CPU PLL…………………....1.500V*.......: Auto << Set 1.5-1.6
                CPU Referen.…………....0.755V*.......: Auto
                CPU Reference2………,,0.800V*.......: Auto

                MCH/ICH
                MCH Core…………….....1.100V...........:Auto << Set 1.2-1.24 for 4GB memory
                MCH Reference….…….0.800V...........; Auto
                MCH/DRAM Ref.…......0.900V...........: Auto
                ICH I/O……………….....1.500V............:Auto
                ICH Core…………...……1.100V............: Auto

                DRAM
DRAM Voltage ……....1.800V............: 2.100V << Fine 2.0-2.1 should be used
                DRAM Termination .…0.900V............:Auto
                Channel A Reference 0.900V............:Auto

Once you get going and need further help go ahead and give me your new full settings and I will advise back
