GA-EX58-UD5 dead? Or is it the PSU?

When I try to turn on the computer (using either the case's power switch or the motherboard one), all that comes on are these two LED lights:

They're "NB PHASE LED" if you zoom in and look at the board's labels. Fans don't spin up and the motherboard doesn't go to POST.

The last couple days before this happened, the computer kept rebooting out of nowhere, even when I underclocked the processor to 2GHz. I ran Memtest86+ and it found no errors so I don't think it's the RAM. I don't have a replacement PSU to test with (yet) so all I got are those two lights to go by :(

Other specs: Intel Core i7 920, EVGA GTX 280, Zalman 850W

It is probably the Zalman, many issues with GA-X58 boards and Zalman PSU's

Have you tried clearing the CMOS yet? Try for a long period by removing the battery and unplugging the PSU from the wall, also press and hold the case power button for one minute after you unplug the PSU.

I have tried clearing the CMOS but only with the latter method. How do you exactly remove the battery? I'm kind of scared of messing around with it...

What exactly does the two LEDs lighting up mean?

And if it's the PSU, what 800+ watt PSUs work well with this motherboard?

I dont know exactly what the lights mean but I am using a corsair 850 PSU and works fine with my board.

It pops right out, easily. Get a small flat-head screw driver and push down on the little tab on the bottom, it will then pop out.

LED's lighting up can mean anything, normally they would all light up when you are in the BIOS, not sure why only two are lit though.

I use Ultra X3 850 PSU's without issue, as for others I am not really sure but I know Zalmans do have plenty of issues with these boards. How long had it been working for you previously?

Do you have a case speaker connected, if not connect one and see if you get any error beeps.

Hmm, well that is surprising.

Can you test another PSU on your setup then, so we can be sure if the PSU is the issue or not.

I got a PSU to test and...Yep! The Zalman died! Time to buy a new one :):(

It's kind of funny; the new PSU (my old one from 2004!) doesn't support the GTX280 so I had to pop in my ooooold 7600GT. Core i7+7600GT+12GB :D

Ahh so your new/old PSU started the system then?

Sounds like it, if so great! And it's really great to hear your CPU/board/memory survived, a lot of the time when a PSU dies it can take many other items down with it
