    CD/DVD Writer not recognized VISTA x32

    Unfortunately, I hav only had this problem with Vista...junk!junk!junk! Ok, to business, this is probably the number one issue for this OS, but I installed a new CD/DVD writer and the laptop recognized it 1 time and now, it doesn't recognize it at all. When the system boots, the drive light flashes and even spins, but it doesn't show up in the Device Manager, or anywhere for that matter. I'm figuring it has to be the OS, but maybe a little help here would balance me out being that i hate Vista and LOVE Windows 7!!! lol...thanks for any knowledge here, I am actually reformatting right as i am writing this... Thanks!

    I'd reinstall chipset drivers and see if that fixes it.

      Crazy thing that happened...it came on, I played music on it and everything, then after a restart, it was gone??? Everyone with Vista has been having this issue...any ideas? I'll try that. Thanks!

        I have been using vista since before the beta was publicly released and have used various CD/DVD drives in it and have never seen any issues with them. So it may just be the CD/DVD player you have, it's certainly not vista itself

          Ok, I know this topic is old now, but my "registry" has no upper or lower filters and this cd drive is still MIA! lol! I am in the process of getting another one for the customer...whadayathink? No luck on the reformat. No luck on anything...any ideas?

            Sounds like it's just not compatible, it happens. Hopefully a new drive will work better!

                Pretty much all dvd driver will work fine with vista 64. As mentioned the more important factor is what software will work

                  ya, that's true, but when vista won't recognize it at all, we may have deeper problems than just the cd drive. coule be motherboard conection but I don't even want to go there yet. We'l see how the new drive works, hopefully well and NO issues! And the customer can have their laptop back. Thanks for the reply!
