  • 124 BSOD with Gigabyte EX58-UD5 and i7 965

    Hi all,

    I recently upgraded to an i7 965 processor (an Intel engineering sample) and a Gigabyte EX58-UD5 board.

    I've been having intermittent BSODs and reboots, always with error 124. System is used mainly for video encoding so it runs at full load most of the time - this 124 error comes up on average once a week.

    Now I did migrate this hard drive across from my previous 965/Q6600 rig but I do not believe that to be the problem.

    I've already swapped out the PSU for a 750w Corsair unit and changed the graphics card so I have ruled those out as causes.

    Here's all the relevant information, I'd love some guidance!

    Code:
    CPU = i7 965 ES
    Motherboard = EX58-UD5 rev 12
    BIOS Version = F12
    Ram = G. Skill F3-16000CL9-2GBTD

    Re: 124 BSOD with Gigabyte EX58-UD5 and i7 965

    124 error is not enough or too much qpi/vtt voltage,dont leave it on auto
    QPI/VTT Voltage 1.150v ............ AUTO 1.175 set this to 1.30000v or near to it in the bios

    CPU Vcore ............................... AUTO 1.275 you can set this manually to normal voltage setting,if its unstable then set it to 1.275v

    its not psu/graphic card its qpi/vtt voltage

        You should also set your own Memory multiplier, and uncore set 2x that or 1-2 above

          Cheers all, now I'm a total noob here so would anybody be able to give me some assistance in all these various settings to get the best performance and stabililty out of my system at stock speed? My settings seem to vary a lot from the template given.

            is the ram rated at 1.5 or 1.65v? set it in bios either 1.5 or 1.66 for 1.65v,set the timing for example 8-8-8-24 yourself and the spd system multiplier to give you 1600mhz ram speed,set qpi/vtt to 1.30000v and try with normal setting for cpu voltage if its not stable then try with 1.25-1.275v,you can enable c3/c6/c7 state support in advanced cpu features too

            set timing according to your ram,usually printed on the side of the module along with the voltage,you shouldnt need to adjust anything else and can be left on auto
