  • 8800 GT Fan speed

I know this is a bit old talk, but is there a way to limit fan speed at boot ( it goes 100% at start, then it goes to normal 30%) It is annoying becose it happens also when i wake up from sleep mode.. at 100% i allway wake up my gf, and this is bad ting at night :)

I tried downloading NibiTor 5.8 but cant load bios ?? need older nvidia drivers ?

    Re: 8800 GT Fan speed

I had the same issue with my old 7900GTO flashed to 7900GTX a few years back. Not saying this will be the case for you, but for me there was no way to change it by editing fan profiles in the card's BIOS etc. It was just something the card did when initially powered and probably no signal (other than power) coming into the card from the PCIe slot.

The only certain way to remove the problem would be to use an after market cooler and via a fan header and resistor cable set a constant fan speed. I've always found this easy to do, even on a HD4850, where a single Noctua 120mm at 1200RPM on the cooler kept temps under control at both idle and load. Wouldn't really work on a lot of current cards, especially NVidia Fermi, but you shouldn't have an issue on an 8800GT.

An even cheaper method would be to remove any plastic shroud and unscrew the default fan if ppossible, replacing it with a 92mm/120mm fan, secured via a couple of zip ties. Sounds a bit makeshift but it'd solve the problem, cool better than the original fan even at a low RPM and almost definitely be quieter as long as you chose the right fan/used a resistor cable.
