  • [Crossfire] No performance gain in games. 2xradeon 4850 on E8400 cpu

    Greetings all.
    As in the title.
I've got Gigabyte EP45-DS4 mainboard and intel core 2 duo E8400 procesor.
I've added a second Gigabyte HD Radeon 4850 512 ram card on crossfire.
The card looks like working. Its properly connected with two crossfire bridges and with the power cord. The feeder is getting by.
In the CCC driver options I've turned on the crossfire mode.
Because I haven't noticed any performance gain I've uninstalled the ati drivers and then installed them again. They are: Ati Catalyst 10.10 on windows XP x64.
Looks like Furmark shows the double performance gain and in 3D mark 06 I've got several hundred points more.
But In below mentioned games I haven't got any performance gain - even one FPS. In some cases the FPSs dropped down. I've measured it using Frapps so there are some differences but I should get almost a double performance gain. Shouldn't I?

    Tests results:
    Furmark:
    BEFORE: 4190 o3Marks
    CROSSFIRE: 8089 o3Marks
    3D MArk 06:
    BEFORE: 12029 3DMarks
    CROSSFIRE: 15701 3DMarks

    Flatout Ultimate Carnage:
    BEFORE: 65.92FPS
    CROSSFIRE: 56.28FPS
    Drakensang River of Time
    BEFORE: 26.08FPS
    CROSSFIRE: 25.87FPS
    Dirt2
    BEFORE: 61.1
    CROSSFIRE: 59.9

Analysing the problem I've made the following things:
HWinfo Does it see the two different GPUs - YES

GPU-Z Does it show that the two GPUs work on crossfire - YES

MSI Afterburner - Are the two cards loaded at the 100% level during games? - YES

This test is in my opinion the most importand one, because it shows that the problem is not the procesor power.

Catalyst Control Center - Is there everything ok? - NOT REALLY

I don't know why one of the GPUs is shown in the CCC as "Disabled Adapter".
It's strange. However I've checked it only during standard windows mode, not in games.

On the other side the CCC shows that the both cards work in crossfire:

And now the other strange thing: in the device manager I've got two unknown devices which have croped up after the GPU upgrade. Even though I've reinstalled the drivers and even though in the upper mentioned tests the cards seem to work properly, I can't get rid of the two question marks.

Don't look on the Brother printer, it was just plugged in to wrong USB for now. The two question marks were there independently from the driver mark. I can't get rid of them manually by driver update - after finding the inf file in the ati's driver folder it says that it couldn't update the driver. I'm not even sure if it's any problem related to the crossfire performance gain.

Anyway I'm asking you for help. Why the damned crossfire is not working properly?
    Greetings.
