Well here it is straight from AMD, their new roadmap showin' "Barton" and "Clawhammer" bein' pushed back about a quarter. :cry:

If AMD doesn't get their act together, they will begin losing huge market shares back to Intel. They have already proven themselves and the processors since the Northwood have also been very solid overclockers.

I still enjoy my Athlon based system, but if AMD doesn't get squared away pretty quickly, well, it would suck to be them. :(

Sources still seem to be certain that the next Athlon (due very soon too they reckon as well) will have the 166MHz FSB which when added to the newer "Thoroughbred II" core should give some interesting results though. ;)

Well I read a thread in some forum from a guy that sells both amd and intel chips and boards in Australia......he said in 2 years time he has only seen the AMD rep. ONE TIME.... in TWO YEARS! He also went on to say that he saw the Intel man at least twice a WEEK! (and even the AMD rep. wasn't from the AMD company, just a middleman!) That doesn't say very much for how AMD is treating their retailers!Of course that was one guy at a store in australia....don't really know how they do in the US....hopefully better! But my point is that AMD has earned their reputation through low prices, quality and PROMISES KEPT! If they start this selling of processors on paper only.....then their reputation is going to go down the drain! That same man said that a lot of people had heard about the AMD 2600 aand 2800 processors.....but he had to tell them they were not out yet and the 2200 was the fastest AMD chip they sold! Guess what? Most of the people in his store that WANTED to buy an AMD system with the 2600 or 2800 chip....SWITCHED to INTEL! He said that a lot of people were getting fed up with AMD advertising something....only to have it appear in stores months later! Can't really blame them there! I am an AVID fan of AMD chips! But I think that their war with intel DEMANDS that they put out their processors on schedule! They just can't afford to have the userbase they have worked so hard to win over from Intel....GO BACK to intel! But if something doesn't happen soon with AMD I am afraid that may very well happen! I would HATE to see it too! But when a customer walks into a store and wants a fast system and then asks for AMD.... and is told all they have is the 2200, but he KNOWS that the 2600 and 2800 have been advertised and "hyped" by AMD....what is he to do?? You can't really blame the customer for wanting a product NOW and not "in a few months" when AMD decides to ship the faster processors! The processor market is based on people that have been "tricked" into thinking that they HAVE to have the FASTEST processor out there, and though the more experienced users know that this is just a bunch of hype to boost sales (because it depends on what you use your computer for) MOST PEOPLE STILL WANT THE FASTEST PROCESSOR MONEY CAN BUY! So that drives AMD and intel to always push the envelope for greater and greater speeds....CONSUMER DEMAND! And it is also WHAT WILL KILL a processor maker if they don't KEEP UP! Like I said I would HATE to see this happen to AMD....I think that they are what keeps Intel from becoming a monoply of the processor market.....(VIA chips.....who???) But they need to get their act together and get it together fast if they don't want to be left in the dust by intel!

webe3 , not everyone can afford to buy Intel's chips...I just upgraded my computer a couple weeks ago...I had a Pentium3 600Mhz, and now I have an AthlonXP 1800+ !!! I would have gone with a Pentium4 2.53Ghz (533fsb), granted a speed difference, but it would've cost more than twice the price (cpu vs. cpu), compared to the AMD solution, so I went with the AthlonXP for price... like a lot of people, I am on a buget, so I had to make choices, and look at upgradablity. with AMD, I can upgrade to a 166fsb cpu in the near future, where as with Intel's Pentium4, I would need a new mobo for anything above 3Ghz...not to mention that upgrading the Athlon will cost as much (total price- this cpu AND the next @ 166fsb) as the Pentium4 cpu alone (today only)

the sad thing is, even though we've now been flooded with info on the AMD 2700+ and 2800+, as well as the support for a 166FSB, we won't actually see this as a consumer til the end of the year, at which point Intel will be releasing their fancy new 3Ghz P4s... :(

it cant be good, the speed is droping off and then unfortunatley so do the sales, so then the research money will be decreasing :(

My point was that I would not WANT to buy an Intel chip! But I think that if the AMD manufacturer doesn't pick up speed and put out faster chips to compete with Intel....then people will turn to Intel by default! After all, the lions share of the market has been hypnotized into thinking that they HAVE to have the FASTEST chip out there in order to do everyday things! This of course is NOT true! A 1 gigahertz (AMD or Intel) chip will run just about any software out there, but people have been conditioned by advertisers that if they don't have the fastest chip, they will soon be unable to run the latest software! This is why people INSIST on having the fastest chip! And that means that AMD had better keep up with intel in the chip wars or get left behind! I hate to say that, but it's true! And I don't know about canadian prices, but in the US it is a lot cheaper on the prices of chips! But still AMD blows away Intel when it comes to price...even in the US!

A few things just kickin' around recently about some reasons about this delay.
Don't be surprised about some spec changes happening before these other CPU's hit the stores.
A lot are pushing the idea that Barton itself may turn out to be a 200MHz FSB (400MHz DDR) unit and these rumours are almost as strong as they were for the 166MHz FSB. ;)

Ok it seems that thru the back door Barton has been officially given the 400MHz DDR FSB (200MHz) which is expected to be officially released just prior to the Athlon64's release (XP3000+ maybe but more likely XP3200+ around February with Athlon64 in March). VIA now has plans to release their KT400A chipsets early next year (mid January most likely) so that supplies of motherboards will be around well before the launch of Barton. :devil:

Looks like AMD is a hard spot now..
Intel is pushing its FSB up to 800Mhz, tho it seems that they do it cause they seem to have trouble to get the core to much higher frequencies..

Oh and Vias KT400A seems to be using DualDDR.

"We also received full confirmation that VIA's KT400A will in fact be a dual channel DDR solution. The boards should be ready in January and we'll be able to see if VIA has what it takes to out-tweak NVIDIA."

That last bit hasn't yet been confirmed by others yet and is based on VIA having it in a P4 chipset atm so I'll wait for a bit on that one. : peace2:
