Back after a while, those summer days tend to adjust our overclocks i guess. I have an i5-750 oced with turbo on and 160 BCLK resulting to a 3.84ghz overclock. Until a couple of months ago the cpu fan speed didn't go over 1100 - 1200 rpm on daily use now it hovers around 1500-1600 keeping the CPU at 40-42 C. As you now on gigabyte boards you cannot set a custom fan speed on the Bios you just have to select Enabled and the cpu fan will adjust by itself. Two options and i need your opinion : i could take of the cpu fan and see how the thermal paste have spread over the 6 months i used it and reapply or second option should i install EasyTune and set a manual profile for the cpu fan? I am asking because the max RPM of the hyper 212+ is 2000 RPM and it shouldnt run at 1600 all day, it kinda makes some noise. Is it easy to set a manual fan speed in ET? Does it have target temperature and RPM and such options? Or you can just set a static 50% of the fan speed?

It's very easy to set a set speed in easytune, just move the two temp sliders for minimum/maximum fan/speed shown in percentages, the fan will speed to full speed though if needed but should stay within what speed you set if it doesn't get too hot,the other way would be to purchase a cheap fan controller but I find easytune just as good if you just want to control the CPU fan

Thanks wazza i will try it, i think it speeds up way too much and it isn't needed. I am guessing it could work at 1100-1200 rpm and keep it at the same temps.

Should i even bother with opening the case and reapplying thermal paste? I used the coolermaster paste that came with the fan, i don't know if it was that good.

It's up to you, your temps are ok,I wouldn't mess unless you have some top quality paste to apply like tuniq tx2 or arctic mx3,I don't know how good coolermasters paste is but it should do the job

Wazza, can you please tell me what version of EasyTune you use? And is it possible to post a screen of how you have set up the Smart Fan control? I think the default values isn't aggressive enough.

            Re: ga-p55 usb3 rev 2 with i5 750 and hyper 212+

And second question because i started doubting about my OC yesterday. Let me repeat the settings (i5 750, 4gb ddr3 1333 cl7 1.65v) :

            bclk :160
            turbo : enabled
            ram x8 : 1280mhz 7-7-7-20 1T

            Voltage Settings :
            Load-Line Calibration : Disabled
            CPU Vcore 1.30625V : Normal
            x Dynamic Vcore(DVID) +0.00000V
            QPI/Vtt Voltage 1.210V
            PCH Core 1.050V
            CPU PLL 1.800V
            DRAM Voltage 1.660V

I wanted to run a little less VCore to lower the temps and i used the above settings and used -0.02500V on DVID. When i ran prime for 2 cores resulting to 3.84ghz i got a blue screen with stop error 124. I then searched and this is an error of too high/low qpi/vtt. Could that be the case? Because the only setting i changed was reducing some vcore. Could it be that if i use more qpi/vtt i can lower the vcore?
Plus i know for sure because i have tested it, that i can use lower vcore using the -DVID if i have LLC on Auto and not disabled. Can you please advise on how to proceed with the voltage settings? I know that the above settings are stable i have been using them for over 6 months but i want to select the best optimal for my setup, any help would be appreciated.

Auto should be fine for llc, maybe one or two clicks more qpi voltage if needed

Here's my easytune fan settings, just play around with the fan speed slider at the bottom to slow the fan down

Ok i can use Auto on LLC and use less VCore, i have tested that it works. I do not have this setting Wazza that you show on the pic i have a graph with 2 bolts min rpm/min temp and max rpm/max temp.
The default was 28% / 28C - 100% / 60C. How can i get the settings you have in Smart fan, is it another version of easytune or you can choose the layout?

I'm using an older version but your version works the same way,set the bars so it runs at say 10% up to 50c then higher than 50c to run at 100% fan speed

Ok wazza, thanks for your help i will try once i get home.

Last thing about LLC and Vcore. I came to a pretty solid conclusion with yesterdays testing. Having LLC disabled i am somehow limited to adjust VCORE to lower values, meaning that having LLC Disabled and CPU VCORE on Normal it gives me readings of maximum 1.2640V used on load although my cpu VID is 1.30625V. So with LLC Disabled i have to let the DVID on +0.00000 otherwise i have issues. So basically i have to chose whether to let LLC drop the vcore or have it on AUTO and lower the vcore manually with -DVID. I see you clock with LLC Disabled so i will follow the same route. After all it uses less so i do not have to adjust anything.

All llc does is stop the CPU voltage from dropping when under load, you can either enable it and take off voltage in dvid or disable it and dont take off voltage in dvid, either way will be the same, just try and see which way is best regarding stability/temps

LLC is made just for that, to keep the same vcore at idle and under load.
Leaving vcore auto (assuming for OC) is gambling since you don't know what it will be set to, or if it changes with BIOS versions.
Having DVID is almost equivalent to LLC, with the difference that we don't know when is it being applied, so it may be applied under small load when not all of it needed.
Basically you can achive the same target vcore needed under load with it or without it. If you use DVID it may be needed to have vcore a bt higher for the higher minimum frequency.
