  • Thoughts on Gaming Build?

Hello guys, I'm trying to configure a new gaming computer and wanted to run it by you.

I'm mainly playing WoW and waiting for Star Wars the Old Republic.

I know I am probably building much more computer than I need but I want it that way, I have about $2000 and enjoy stuff "Looking Cool"

I am liking the things I have read about the ASUS RoG line and have decided I dont mind paying a little more for it (unless I am shown its total junk of course).

The video cards I've struggled with, don't know if it would be more beneficial to do SLI, Crossfire or massive single GPU.

Here's what I've come up with (be gentile )

    Processor: Intel Core i5-2500k

Motherboard: ASUS Maximus IV Extreme-Z LGA 1155 Intel Z68 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 Extended ATX Intel Motherboard

    RAM: CORSAIR Vengeance 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1866 (PC3 15000) Desktop Memory Model CMZ8GX3M2A1866C9R

    Graphics Card: ASUS MATRIX GTX580 P/2DIS/1536MD5 GeForce GTX 580 (Fermi) 1536MB 384-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0

Boot Drive: 2x Corsair Force Series GT CSSD-F60GBGT-BK 2.5" 60GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) (RAID 0)

Storage Disk: Seagate Barracuda ST31000524AS 1TB 7200 RPM SATA 6.0Gb/s

Case: Thermaltake Level 10 GT (VN10001W2N) Black SECC / Plastic ATX Full Tower

Power Supply: CORSAIR Professional Series HX850 (CMPSU-850HX)

    CPU Cooler: Corsair H100

    Thanks!

note to the ssds: Don't run it in raid (any), as TRIM isn't supported in raid modes yet. You're already buying the fastest on the market, no need to use raid on such a setup imo.

About the HDD, if it runs similar to the 1.5tb version I got around, it gets pretty hot at 43ish degrees celcius. Maybe you could fine something better/similar that runs at a lower temp.
My advice - never visit a short-url, no matter who gives it to you. You can't trust any source at any time when you don't know your target
Whitey:Snuggles: Zotac Zbox HD-ID40 (Atom d525, worst purchase ever on cpu), Patriot Pyro 60GB (Thanks to Tweaktown Giveaway), 4GB 800' DDR2 SO-DIMM
    Bcube (NAS): ASUS F1A75-I Deluxe, AMD A6-3500 @ 2.1GHz, LSI 9240-8i (M1015) controller, GSkill Ares 1866 8GB blue kit, 4x Seagate SV35.5 2TB, 1x Seagate Barracuda 1.5TB, 1x Samsung HD103UJ, 1x Samsung F4 2TB, Temp. Rebel9 Alu case, Corsair H60, 2x Icy Dock MB973SP-B, NZXT UI01, Enermax T.B. Silence on docks and cpu, Aurum 500W gold PSU. (Draws 65W average, doesn't peak above 100W at any time)

      I think one single ssd drive would be better,the corsair Gt 120gb sata3? As for a storage hdd I would stick with sata2,you won't notice any speed increase with a mechanical sata3 hdd from a sata2 drive,I can recommend the Samsung f4 2tb drive,130mb read/write or Samsung f3 1tb drive,around 150mb read/write figures

Have you looked at the asus z68 pro? With the money you save on the above go for a 2600k chip? As it will have multithreading, tho not supported in games it will help on video encoding ect
