  • Unable to fit Cat 5e plug to x58a-ud3r ethernet port

    Hey lsdmeasap and guys

This might be a silly question, but I just bought several Cat 5e plugs as I want to shorten my existing cat 5e cable length.

I can't seem to fit the plugs into my giggabyte x58a-ud3r ethernet port. What could the reason be? I compared to my existing one and the physical dimensions look very similar. Could it because I have not crimped it yet? This is my first time making ethernet cables

Please let me know if you require more info

Aren't the contacts need to be pushed in to be in touch with the wires?

Maybe, but the plugs are able to fit into my router - maybe it's got a larger sized hole compared to the gigabyte onboard port ?

RJ-45 connecter has a standard dimensions that it should have to conform to. The only changes that were made to a RJ-45 connecter over time was the internal of the connecter. Cat6 has thiker copper wires inside so the channels for the copper wire were made larger. But the Physical shape and size of the connecter has stayed the same.

I would just make your cable and try. If you dont want to make a whole 6ft cable make a 3inch cable with 1 end and make sure it fits.

If for some reason you still cant get your new RJ-45 connecters to insert into the Ethernet port on the motherboard then I would return them from where you go them from and order new ends from somewhere else.
