  • GA-Z68XP-UD3 why not B3 ?

I checked these to boards: GA-Z68XP-UD3 and GA-Z68X-UD3-B3. No big differences, but why there is no -B3 of the XP version ?
The GA-Z68XP-UD3 was not affected by the callback and the GA-Z68X-UD3 was, so there came the GA-Z68X-UD3-B3 ? If you have any info please tell me, because I wanna buy GA-Z68XP-UD3, but if it is not fixed like the GA-Z68X-UD3-B3 then the GA-Z68X-UD3-B3 will be my choice, thanks!

    Re: GA-Z68XP-UD3 why not B3 ?

The Newegg comparison says that the XP model has "Onboard mSATA for Intel SLC SSDs and Smart Response Technology" and "(* The SATA2_5 connector will become unavailable when the mSATA connector is installed with a solid state drive)".
Your best bet is to check the specs for each board at the GB website and to download and check the mobo user manual for each board for other possible differences.
I doubt that (and hope) that they are not selling any 1155 mobos that still have the early sata problems.

      Re: GA-Z68XP-UD3 why not B3 ?

There was never a B2 version of the GA-Z68XP-UD3. It has been released after the B2 was long gone and forhotten.

hmhm, I haven't read this, thanks for your comment! I guess I will get the GA-Z68X-UD3-B3 then and get a SATA2 or SATA3 SSD as my sys drive later.

They are both selling at the same price on newegg, abd the XP has onboard HDMI port which means you can use QuickSync Video, even if you are not going to use ithe built in video.

            Re: GA-Z68XP-UD3 why not B3 ?

Without checking for other possible differences, the XP looks like it's somewhat better.
On rare occasions, I've found errors in Newegg's posted features or specifications.
If you don't connect an mSATA ssd to the mSATA connector, the SATA2_5 connection will be available.
Contact Gigabyte tech support directly to confirm that the XP model is as "good" as the -B3 model.

Good luck with your new mobo.

This QuickSync Video seems very interesting to me! It makes video encoding/decoding very fast. I don't know if the x264 encoder supports this or not in encoding. I wanna backup some BDs to 720p mkv files, so I am interested in this feature.
@Chike: so you say quicksync can be used only with the XP version, which has onboard HDMI, u sure ? Because then it is really a better choice to me.

                Re: GA-Z68XP-UD3 why not B3 ?

Quick Sync Video is supported on boards that have on-board video. Z68XP/AP and models like Z68/A/X-D2H/UD3H etc.
H67 boards with on-board video also support it, you can find it in the boards' overview on GB site.
Unlike it's competitors that had all their boards with on-board video, only few of GB early models had it at first.
According to wikipedia H.264/MPEG-4 AVC, VC-1 and MPEG-2 are supported, not sure if by all software.

As I need the QuickSync feature the XP version should be better, but where did you find this info ? I don't want to attach any mSATA ssd, just simple HDDs and maybe later a normal 2,5" SSD as system disk.

One more important question came to my mind: these mobos will probably be compatible with new Ivy Bridge CPUs or not ? Have you heard anything about this Chike, profJim ?

They will be Ivy Bridge friendly. Apparently they will not support native PCIe 3.0

Check out http://forums.tweaktown.com/gigabyte...3-support.html for a brief discurssion why full PCI-e Gen3 bandwidth probably won't be supported.
Post #17 has links to a TweakTown article and a press release from MSI that shows why most current P67 motherboards can't offer full Gen3 PCI-E performance. I don't know if some current Z68 mobo's are affected.

Can we sue them for this ? Or they will provide us with free "Upgrades" ?? Thats is the $$$ question. I hope Gigabyte comes out with an official statement pretty soon, explaining this mess.

My advice - never visit a short-url, no matter who gives it to you. You can't trust any source at any time when you don't know your target
