  • Reboot Loop. H67M-ITX + i5 2500K

    Hi all,

    I had assembled a new box based on ASRock H67M-ITX with i5-2500K and G.Skill F3-10666CL9D-8GBRL @ 1,333.

After running fine for more than two months, it started have problems yesterday after all normal operations.

    1) Blank monitor screen
    2) reboot loop when starting up

I have checked all video connections and tried 3 different monitors, its all blank screen.

The reboot loop problem, is however, much much more severe. Fans will start spinning for 1-2 seconds and stop, and spin up again for 1-2 seconds and then stop, and the death cycle repeats itself. Sometimes I could get it to boot (randomly) but then its still blank screen.

I have already cleared CMOS three times, with one of which was a overnight clear CMOS short. It did not help.
I swapped in a different PSU. It did not help either.
Obviously I can't flash or get into BIOS at all, because the boot problem is so early in the cycle.

Could anyone shed some light on what's going on?

Could try setting up mb outside the pc case on cardboard or wooden surface just to rule out a possible short

      Yes that's a possibility.

But given that the computer was running fine for 2 months, I doubt that will be the case.

Will give it a try either way later tonight.

using built in gpu? could test with graphics card if you have one to rule out igpu problem?could also try with just one stick of ram installed either in first or second ram slot, cant think of what else you can try other than inspect cpu socket for bent pins or possible mb fault?

          Re: Reboot Loop. H67M-ITX + i5 2500K

Just had time to test. There's no short between the back of motherboard and the case.

Had an extra gfx card but its too big for the case.

The reboot loop is exactly looking like this website:

H67 failure - reboot loop problem videos Site

Tried remove one stick DRAM. AND IT WORKED! Tested both slots and I think one stick of the DRAM has definitely gone bad. Time to RMA to G.Skill. Or maybe just buy a new pair since they are so cheap nowadays.

Thank you very much for the pointers!
