  • GA-EX58-UD4P - 5850 Crossfire problem

    Hello,

I just added a Sapphire 5850 Xtreme to my system which already had a regular Sapphire 5850. The problem I am facing is the 2nd PCI-E x16 slot is reading the card at x8. I have swapped the cards around and the 2nd slot remains to read at x8. I double checked and I am indeed using both x16 slots. I have nothing else installed in any other PCI-E slots. I have also tried multiple different BIOS versions, cleaned the slots and card contacts still nothing. Any ideas?

    Thanks.

    Re: GA-EX58-UD4P - 5850 Crossfire problem

did you get xfire running? it should run at 16x for both cards, maybe try re installing the cards and drivers? could try reflashing bios and untick "keep dmi pool data" but install both cards before you do that, then load optimized defaults in the bios, could try clearing the cmos too see if that helps

      Re: GA-EX58-UD4P - 5850 Crossfire problem

Yes crossfire is running, just the card in the second PCI-E x16 slot is only x8. I tried flashing the bios with 3 different versions but I used the utility in the BIOS and didn't see the option "Keep DMI pool data." Now I am currently on F14P, loaded optimized defaults and reinstalled drivers but problem still persists. I wonder if this is a windows issue failing to report the correct numbers, but there is no way to check what the cards are running outside windows.

Is it running at x8 if only one card is installed in the second PCIe x16 slot?

you should see the keep dmi pool data box its only small just before you or on the same page as where you click to flash bios, try that and see if it fixes it,untick it so that it rebuilds it

Could try fully clearing cmos by leaving out mb battery for 30mins or overnight,I cant think what else you could try

So this could be a defective second PCI-E x16 slot?

not sure, could be a mb bios issue or a gpu bios issue, any bios updates for that card on the manufacturers website? could re-install or update the intel inf chipset drivers too,i dont think its the mb but not 100% sure on that

I don't think its the bios on the card because it is happening with both cards in the second pci-e x16 slot. I would have to say its motherboard related. I do appreciate your assistance and prompt responses.

Probably is motherboard related, could be some compatibility issue with the card. Try to contact GB support and see if they can have it fixed.

Annoying as it may be you shouldn't suffer any performance loss because of it x8 should be sufficient for these cards.

The motherboard is out of warranty so I doubt they will have it fixed for me. Even though I am probably not suffering much at x8 I just wanted to figure out what the issue is.
