  • Should I choose NTFS or Fat32 with Windows XP Pro?

    Hi;

    Just purchased Windows XP Pro and have been reading up on installation. I am presently running Windows 98se. I have two separate hard drives. I want to do a clean install on my C drive (OS drive). Will I be able to use the files on my D drive after installation if I choose NTFS during installation, or are they lost. I am the only one that uses the computer so security is no big deal. I have read the XP guides on this website, but still not sure which file system to use. Any help would be very much appreciated. Thank You. Badger

    Ntfs is less prone to getting screwed up during an abnormal shutdown, in addition to the security features. XP can see both fat32 and ntfs file systems, so the data on the d: drive should still be accessable.

      If you still like to play around with old dos games or programs, you should definitely stick to Fat32. You can find more info about it in general searching on www.google.com
