  • Z68XP-UD3 No sound from rear speakers

Just got Z68 mobo installed today, everthing fine except 5.1 sound. Using the analog out rear jacks, the sound manager always shows "side" speakers instead of rear speakers, no matter whether I plug the rears into the "rear speakers" jack or the "side speakers" jack.

Have unplugged all and plugged in one at a time so jack detection is enabled in the Sound Manager, no joy.
Uninstalled Gigabyte/Realtek drivers and installed generic Realtek latest drivers (working fine on my P67 mobo) and still no joy. Plus "Room Correction" no longer shows up when the analog speaker out is selected as default.

Searched the net a bit and evidently others have had the same problem with some Gigabyte mobo's, but no fix I've seen.
This is make or break for me, I don't want or need a sound card, just for this to work correctly or I'm sending the board back for a refund or swap.

Anyone have a fix for this?

    Thanks, guys.

thats just the stupid way gigabyte and asus (dont know about others) label them side is actually rear, you can set to 7.1 sound and disable the side speakers then that should give you 5.1 sound

Hmmm. It didn't work that way on my P67. I'll give it a shot, though!

Re: Z68XP-UD3 No sound from rear speakers

I got the rears working per your suggestion. But I don't have a setup for options like yours (889 codec).
Also I don't have the room correction like you do and like I have with my P67 mobo.
When the driver is first installed, as jacks are plugged in a window pops up with a list of inputs, however. (auto popup dialog)
Without room correction I'm not sure how useful this is going to be for me. But anyway, I thank you for your help. At least all speakers are working now with 5.1 sound.

just keep playing around, those screens are from my p6x58d mb,it wont let me grab screenshots from this z68 mb,it just comes up black picture for some reason, see all the coloured jack plugs on the right hand side of screenshot? you can double click those and assign whatever speakers to that port,front/rear/centre ect, your mb isnt faulty its just a bit of a pain regarding software to set up

heres room correction, took pics with my phone of z68 sound, does it let you tick the box to enable room correction? see the tick?

Yeah, I see how you can click the jacks and bring up the assignments. But, no room correction. Like I say, I got it on the P67 but it evidently doesn't exist on this Z68.
              Well, I learned something anyway!

it should do,try right clicking the standard speaker icon, not sound manager speaker, and enable room correction there,it might show up in sound manager then

On the room correction, I see it on Z68-UD3H, so maybe it's just the driver version you are using? Yes, I suppose it could be the board, but I think it's more likely the driver version because I know Gigabyte and Realtek drivers vary from release to release.

This is and old version I have installed, R2.55 according to the readme. If you want this version let me know and I can upload it for you, I'll grab the latest right now and test for you (Realtek Download I mean)!

Re: Z68XP-UD3 No sound from rear speakers

OK, this is R2.67 x64, installed directly over the above mentioned version, and I still have it. The installer actually says it uninstalls the old driver and reboots, then installs the new driver and reboots again, but I said I installed over meaning I didn't manually remove any old drivers.

So if R2.67 version is not working for you, uninstall it, and I'll upload that old one I mentioned and you can try installing it and then the latest over it and see if it gives you the room correction or not.

Let me check, LSD, I've got a few older drivers sitting around. I'm wondering if that Dolby crap is interfering somehow.

Ya I just happened to have that old one installed and hadn't downloaded any newer versions in forever because I don't listen to music or anything. So it never matters to me what version I install when installing audio drivers, unless someone needs a version tested, so I install whatever is in my installs folder

Haha, I just checked the date and R2.55 is from Dec 2010 But that and the latest both show room correction for me, with only a single speaker cable attached, so it should work for you unless something is conflicting with it.

Re: Z68XP-UD3 No sound from rear speakers

I went backwards to the 2.59 driver. Everything works good. Tried updating from there to the 2.67 and the room correction disappeared from the Sound Manager and from the Control Panel Sounds. No joy.
So I restored back to the 2.59 driver and everything is good, so I'll stick with it, I guess.
Really weird, though, how they did this driver -or- how it's implemented on this mobo. With the newer driver the room correction goes away, have to set up for 7.1 speakers to get the rears to work, and that Dolby crap installs.

Anyway, it's working, and thanks wazza and LSD for your help!

Now I'm going to stick the "old" P67 mobo in my HTPC build and see what I can tear up.

Would you like me to test anything in regards to what you mentioned about dolby? If so, let me know how I need to enable that so it's the same as you have it, then I can check if that messes up room correction for me.

I only have a 2 speaker system here, and it connects via a single cable, so I can't really check any actual 5.1 or above audio, but I can see if settings get disabled or something like that.
