  • SB Getting hot when running SLI - x79 Extreme 9

    Hi
I have this little problem with my rig.
when i build it it worked as it should even at 4.5Ghz. then i moved it and now the CPU is unstable at OC and the SB is getting hot very fast and the fan starts at 6500 RPM but cant keep up with the heat. sometimes my screen just goes black with some white lines or stats to blink.

i have tried to clear cmos / bios
start it up again, same thing sb gets too hot

the only thing that works is running it with one VGA

    My specs are:
    Asrock - x79 Extreme 9
    Intel i7 - 3930K (stock)
G.skill - F3-19200CL11Q-16GBZHD Quard CH (set to 2133 - running 1066 cant go any higher (windows boot freeze))
    ASUS - NVIDIA-ENGTX560-TI-DCII/2DI/1GD5/1G-DDR5 (SLI)
Corsair - Force GT 120 GB
    2x WD - 320 GB Raid-0
    PSU 1000 watt

    Bios = 2.00

does some one have a clue what could be wrong here?
does someone know how i can run my RAM at 2400 Mhz? (is this only possible in dual CH?)

I seriously dont know whats wrong :(

    Sorry for my english.

your english is fine, check all your components and the heatsink, its only done this since youve moved the pc? try reseating both gpu's and re apply thermal paste and reseat the cpu cooler,

ram should run at 2400mhz quad channel easily on x79,did you manually set the speed/timings and dram voltage? anywhere between 1.5-1.6v dram might be needed

Re: SB Getting hot when running SLI - x79 Extreme 9

try with 2133mhz first and set dram to 1.65v manually, see if thats more stable, something must have moved when you moved the pc causing overheating? check all the case fans are running ect

          Thanks wazza300
I reseated all the heatsinks and applied new paste. the fan does not start unless both VGA's is above 60 degrees :)
these ASUS gtx 560 ti is not good on this mobo without watercooling. ^^

I tried again with the XMP 1.3 ~ 2400. my screen wnet black and the error display on the bord says "63" if im right "0x63" (CPU DXE initialization is started)
          What does this mean?

Any ways the Thing runs great now :D

              Driver eXecution Environment (DXE) Phase
The Driver Execution Environment (DXE) phase is where most of the system initialization is performed. Pre-EFI Initialization (PEI), the phase prior to DXE, is responsible for initializing permanent memory in the platform so that the DXE phase can be loaded and executed. The state of the system at the end of the PEI phase is passed to the DXE phase through a list of position-independent data structures called Hand-Off Blocks (HOBs). HOBs are described in detail in the Platform Initialization Hand-Off Block Specification.
There are several components in the DXE phase:
              “DXE Foundation”
              “DXE Dispatcher”
              A set of “DXE Drivers”
The Dxe Core produces a set of Boot Services, Runtime Services, and DXE Services. The DXE Dispatcher is responsible for discovering and executing DXE drivers in the correct order. The DXE drivers are responsible for initializing the processor, chipset, and platform components as well as providing software abstractions for system services, console devices, and boot devices. These components work together to initialize the platform and provide the services required to boot an operating system. The DXE phase and Boot Device Selection (BDS) phases work together to establish consoles and attempt the booting of operating systems. The DXE phase is terminated when an operating system is successfully booted. The Dxe Core is composed of boot services code, so no code from the Dxe Core itself is allowed to persist into the OS runtime environment. Only the runtime data structures allocated by the Dxe Core and services and data structured produced by runtime DXE drivers are allowed to persist into the OS runtime environment.
