  • z77x-ud5h boot failure

Got my new z77x-ud5h Thursday. Everything works great except it will boot fail often.

It does this even on defaults. I am thinking this is a bios bug or something. I tried F5 and F6d, and they both do it regardless of stock or overclock.

Anyone else have this issue? and if so anyone have a fix maybe?

I am still thinking this is a bios bug though, maybe someone could pass it along to Gigabyte.

    Re: z77x-ud5h boot failure

What are the "boot failure" specifics? boot loop? settings are reset?
If you do a warm reboot, is there a problem?

For us to best help you, add a detailed hardware list to your forum signature including brand names, model numbers, etc.
Include your power supply and memory details.

      Re: z77x-ud5h boot failure

It just says "failed to boot properly", it does it sometimes on cold boot and sometimes on warm boot.

After posting the thread I found a post by Sin and he said its a bios bug, and should be fixed soon.

Hopefully real soon, as this is rather annoying lol. Really great board still though.

          Re: z77x-ud5h boot failure

Having re-installed Win7 several times (don't ask...), I've been through a lot of reboots and not had this error.
I wonder if it's drive specific? Using Samsung 2TB F4EG here in UEFI.
In fact, this board is looking very robust so far. Hope I didn't say that too soon.

            @fastie
            Thanks for the feedback.
There are many factors that can cause random or repeated boot loops; bios bug(s), memory compatibility, power supply issues, etc.
Memory settings can often cause the problem, even when you use default or optimized bios settings.

This is why it's important to have a detailed hardware list in your forum signature.

Stasio's hardware list is an excellent example.
Too bad that he didn't include his overclocked cpu speed, maybe it's because he's going through 24 Phase Power withdrawal with his Z77 system that has fewer power phases.

OK, I get the subtle hint :) Very good point though.
I was in a hurry the first time I posted... When I'm back home I'll update some details!

My not so subtle hint was for the OP and other viewers.
After you've added your hardware list to your forum signature, your list will automatically be displayed in all future posts, but it won't be added to your previous posts. When others see your list, they might want additional details about your system or bios settings, especially if they have a similar setup.

I would include a hardware list if it was a stability problem, but it isn't.

I have ran blend overnight and while at work for the past few days. Runs great. Until I shutdown or reboot and then half the time it boot fails. Its just a bug.

well its all my fault because I swore I would nether get another Gigabyte mobo but after reading SIN's review I relented......

I wouldnt cancel the order if I were you, it really is an amazing motherboard.

I upgraded from a P67a-UD4-B3 myself and do not regret getting the UD5H. I had my share of problems with the UD4 with the first BIOSes, but even after the issues were fixed, I still wanted better.

With the UD5H and the new VRM I have been able to lower my vcore by .035v and reach the same clocks. The LLC levels work great, and also work with dvid now too.

                        Sorry to waste peoples time.
Not a waste of time at all.
It helps when members post the good, the bad and the ugly with new hardware.

Boot loop problems can happen with any brand or model.
Often times it's due to immature bios versions and the problem is reduced or eliminated with later bios versions.

Some posters provide a very detailed account of the stress tests performed and which hardware changes/settings they've tried.
Even with all brand new hardware, there can be incompatibility issues with memory, power supplies, video cards, etc.
Given the similarity between Sandy Bridge and Ivy Bridge, I was hoping that the z77 hardware would be much more reliable when released.
                        Time will tell.
