  • Issues with memory on GA-x58a-ud5. Dram errors, when it does boot, 4 gigs of (12) available

I had this issue with my first motherboard as well, the ga-x58a-ud3r.

I continue to get Dram error settings. I am using the corsair xms3 @1333 mhx 3x2 ram with the ud5 rev 2.0 motherboard.
I have manually changed the dram voltage settings and the qpi settings.
I have tested the ram one stick at a time, (which is how im working right now, one stick in the 2nd slot (A1) ran memtest on all of it.
When I Change my ram voltages in bios it will boot up, but then show something like 4 gigs of ram(12 gigs available. since I have 2 sets of it.
On restart it will boot, and then get another Dram error. The settings won't change back afterwards but stay the way I changed them in the bios.
I had this exact same issue with the ga-x58a-ud3r. Dram errors, not showing full ram, crashes. One day it just worked after spending countless hours screwing around with it.

    Full build is:
    CORSAIR XMS3 12GB (6 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10666) Desktop Memory Model HX3X12G1333C9
    Ga-x58a-ud5 mobo rev 2.0
    Intel Core i7-960 Bloomfield 3.2GHz LGA 1366 130W Quad-Core Desktop Processor BX80601960

I Have also reseated my cpu. I have seen this issue on other forums and one that never really gets answered as to what the issue was. Obviously it has something to do with the mobo's.
Also I tried my friends 3x4 G-skill Ripjaw with the exact same errors.

Any help or advice on this subject would be fantastic, I am about ready to take this thing out to a pasture and office space it.

Wiith 3x4GB also only 4GB available?
What did you set QPI/Vtt and DRAM Voltage to?
Can you use 3x2GB for total of 6GB?

When you reseatted the cpu did you notice if you saw any bent pins? For the users who noted that just reseatting the cpu fixed their problem, it was most likely they had their heatsink either on to tight or not tight enough.

This 12gb of ram was it sold as 1 whole kit 6x2GB or are they 2 kits 3x2gb? If they are 2 kits that could be the issue. Both kits work correctly separately?

Also the amount of qpi/vtt voltage being used is another big factor if you are not using enough this could result in dropped memory channels. Also the more ram you install into the system the more you will have to raise this voltage. For my system with 12gb ram 3x4gb I need 1.555 qpi/vtt just to run stable at stock settings. Also 12GB 3x4gb will be easier on the cpu then 6x2gb.

Have you tested each memory stick in the first white slot closest to the cpu? Also Try each stick in each slot to make sure all slots work.

Thank for for your responses. The ram came as a full kit, 6x2. I have changed my voltages, up and down a lot. It doesn't seem to make a difference. Right now Qpi/vtt is 1.555 and dram voltages is 1.6.
One other thing that it does, is it will cycle 3 times, on the 4th it will boot up no dram error problem. I also get no error when running it once it boots up. Just that only 1/3 of my ram is showing up.
Not sure what sense this makes exactly. Each stick has been tested in the white slot closest to the cpu and they all work just fine.

I have not been able to check for bent pins yet because of low lighting and hard to see well, I will have to get a magnifying glass and flash light probably. Though I am not sure why it would boot up every 4th cycle.. oh issues I hate you lol :)

Just noticed after upping my qpi to 1.555 and dram volt to 1.6 I am now showing 8 gigs of 12 available. Just being thorough. Thanks

1.5v qpi/vtt is too much imo, youd only need around 1.375v for 12gb,did you do a close up inspection of the cpu socket? bent pins is the most likely cause

I agree that 1.555 qpi/vtt is too much even for stock cpu/memory speeds. Then again my 930 has a weaker IMC then my 920. I tried to push my 930 with 12gb ram to 160 bclk with 1.555 qpi/vtt and it was not stable, found out its 20 runs linx stable at stock speeds at 1.555 qpi/vtt no lower. So if it really needs that at stock forget trying to push it any further and its only on air True Extreme 120 I believe.

Right on, 1.555 is too high. Anyways

SUCCESS! Thanks for all the help. Turns out the problem was in fact a bent pin on the mobo that was just off to the side a bit. A magnifying glass, toothpick, and flashlight was the key. Everything is working without error now and all the ram is showing up. Thank you for all those who helped out with this issue.

I left the dram volt at 1.6 and dropped the qpi to 1.295 I think is right.

thats fine, you can always use more qpi/vtt if needed anything upto 1.4 but you shouldnt need that much
