  • z77x-ud3h System Fans Query

    Hi all,

    I have 4 fans

    2 NF-F12 PWM fans connected to sys1

    1 NF-P14 volt fan connected to sys2

    1 NF-P14 volt fan connected to sys3

The 2 PWMs seem to ramp up and down depending on the system temp.

The 2 voltage fans connected to sys 2 and sys 3 stay at a constant speed and dont change due to temp....

    The manual says SYS_FAN1/2/3

    1 GND
    2 +12V/Speed Control
    3 Sense
    4 Reserve

    Thanks

Can these fans be controlled via temperature?

    Re: z77x-ud3h System Fans Query

Read page 47 in your mobo user manual:

    CPU Fan Control mode
Auto Lets the BIOS automatically detect the type of CPU fan installed and sets the optimal CPU
    fan control mode. (Default)
Voltage Sets Voltage mode for a 3-pin CPU fan.
PWM Sets PWM mode for a 4-pin CPU fan.
Note: The Voltage mode can be set for a 3-pin CPU fan or a 4-pin CPU fan. However, for a 4-pin CPU
fan that is not designed following Intel PWM fan specifications, selecting PWM mode may not effectively
    reduce the fan speed.

    CPU Fan Speed Control
Allows you to determine whether to enable the CPU fan speed control function and adjust the fan speed.
Normal Allows the CPU fan to run at different speeds according to the CPU temperature. You can
adjust the fan speed with EasyTune based on your system requirements. (Default)
Silent Allows the CPU fan to run at slow speeds.
Manual Allows you to control the CPU fan speed under the Slope PWM item.
Disabled Allows the CPU fan to run at full speeds.
    Slope PWM
Allows you to control the CPU fan speed. This item is configurable only when CPU Fan Speed Control is
set to Manual. Options are: 0.75 PWM value /oC ~ 2.50 PWM value /oC.

1st/2nd/3rd System Fan Speed Control (SYS_FAN1, SYS_FAN2 and SYS_FAN3 Connectors)
Allows you to determine whether to enable the system fan speed control function for the system fans
connected to SYS_FAN1, SYS_FAN2 and SYS_FAN3 connectors and adjust the fan speed.
Normal Allows the system fan to run at different speeds according to the system temperature. You
can adjust the fan speed with EasyTune based on your system requirements. (Default)
Silent Allows the system fans to run at slow speeds.
Manual Allows you to control the system fans speed under the Slope PWM item.
Disabled Allows the system fans to run at full speeds.
    Slope PWM
Allows you to control the system fan speed. This item is configurable only when 1st/2nd/3rd System Fan
Speed Control is set to Manual. Options are: 0.75 PWM value /oC ~ 2.50 PWM value /oC.

I would just experiment and see which works better for you. I don't know how well the control works on that board, on the UD5H it's a little weird.

I didn't say that there was anything wrong with monkey vomit....different strokes for different folks.
You can keep your motherboard cleaning guru status, but one forum member isn't happy with his new mobo smell.

erm.... i did read the manual and i dont think it works :)

The PWM fans seem to speed up and slow down depending on the sys temp but the 2 other fans which are volts just run at a constant speed :/

Can you mix both pwm and volt fans on this board?

(NOTE: The CPU Volt fan - speeds up and slows down depending on cpu temp)

                Re: z77x-ud3h System Fans Query

Sure it works....in a convoluted user hostile way.
You might need to connect your 3-pin fans to the Cpu_Fan header and select the Voltage option.

Hopefully both PWM fans will work when connected to the Sys_Fan headers where you select Normal.
You can also try Manual mode and a PWM Slope profile.

Being a control freak (anyone surprised?), I prefer using a manual fan controller to balance cooling vs noise depending on the room temperature and how hard I'm running my system.

Let us know how each of the above configurations works with your motherboard.

i cant connect any more fans to the cpu one as it has the 2 cpu fans connected to it already :/

The PWM fans currently work fine ramping up and down - altho they are usually at 0RPM as its that cool in there

                      Re: z77x-ud3h System Fans Query

Aha!! You didn't mention any fans connected to the Cpu_Fan header.
The problem appears to be when you mix 4-pin PWM fans and 3-pin fans on the Sys_Fan headers, where the 3-pin fan speeds can't be varied.

                      You could try this:

Move your current Cpu_Fan wires to one of the Sys_Fan headers.
Note: You might find that each Sys_Fan header will give very different fan speeds when testing with the same fan.

Connect the 3-pin fans to the Cpu_Fan header where you select Voltage to control these fan speeds.

I think that I'm beginning to confuse myself.

Let us know how this approach works out.

You're welcome, glad to help out.

I can confirm only 2 fans get speed control. I have 2 3-pin fans connected (cpu fan and sys fan1 on the lower right side of board).

                        They get controlled.

Any other fans on the other headers just run full blast. Maybe there's some trick I don't know?

According the pin diagrams in the manual, fans 1-3 should work identically. Fan 4 looks like it would get full voltage all the time.
                          YMMV.

I have mounted a new pc for a friend of my with this MB Z77x UD3H. I have only the CPU Fan connected to the MB. What I will like to know is the setting to have this fan running at max speed all the time ( its a 4 pins PWM). Thanks

                              Re: z77x-ud3h System Fans Query

From page 47 in the mobo user manual:

                              • CPU Fan Control mode
Auto Lets the BIOS automatically detect the type of CPU fan installed and sets the optimal CPU
                              fan control mode. (Default)
Voltage Sets Voltage mode for a 3-pin CPU fan.
PWM Sets PWM mode for a 4-pin CPU fan.
Note: The Voltage mode can be set for a 3-pin CPU fan or a 4-pin CPU fan. However, for a 4-pin CPU
fan that is not designed following Intel PWM fan specifications, selecting PWM mode may not effectively
                              reduce the fan speed.

                              • CPU Fan Speed Control
Allows you to determine whether to enable the CPU fan speed control function and adjust the fan speed.
Normal Allows the CPU fan to run at different speeds according to the CPU temperature. You can
adjust the fan speed with EasyTune based on your system requirements. (Default)
Silent Allows the CPU fan to run at slow speeds.
Manual Allows you to control the CPU fan speed under the Slope PWM item.
Disabled Allows the CPU fan to run at full speeds.

                              • Slope PWM
Allows you to control the CPU fan speed. This item is configurable only when CPU Fan Speed Control is
set to Manual. Options are: 0.75 PWM value /oC ~ 2.50 PWM value /oC.
