  • TweakTown Forums and Error msg; "A required Addon is not found..." (or something like that)?

Brand new here. I'm using Windows XP Home (fully updated), but on this forum I keep getting an ERROR message that states something like...

"A required Addon is not found..." (or something like that)?" There is no information that tells me "which" Addon is required, etc.

Can anyone please guide me to preventing this error?

    What I've tried, so far:

    * I added the URL to the IE8 "Tools/Internet Options/Security/Trusted Sites/Sites" list. By default, it requires a URL preceded with a secure link, such as "https://.www......" instead of http://www........ So, since this forum is not a secure web site, I unchecked the box in the "Sites" dialog, and then entered the URL without the "s" parameter. I still get the ERROR.

I'm stuck, and will appreciate some help.

    Thanks!!

          * My browser was mentioned in my OP; it is IE8
          * No, I cannot use another browswer.

Since my last post, I double-checked and found out that there was an update to the Adobe Flash Player, so I installed it. But, just prior to doing that, I had noticed that the error had stopped -- for some unknown reason.

So, I guess this topic can be closed until I find the error again, on some other forum page. Heh heh.

          Thanks, everyone, for your replies!!

6/13/2012: The horizontal bar near the top of my browser is back again! Here is the actual wording on it.

"! An add-on for this website failed to run. Check the security settings in Internet Options for potential conflicts."

Typically-vague Microsoft message. Anyway, my settings on the 'Security' tab show Medium Settings with:

-- "Prompts before downloading potentially unsafe content."
-- "Unsigned ActiveX controls will not be downloaded."

Those two settings don't seem unreasonable to me.

I just want to know WHICH ADDON this web site is using that causes this issue, or else, HOW DO I FIX IT, and still remain 'safe.'??

I checked the settings as you suggested and found 3 items which were "enabled." I unchecked only the Shockwave Flash Object, refreshed the page we are looking at now, and the Error banner across the top of my display disappeared! Then, I closed all browser windows and returned here. The Error did not reappear. Once again, it looks like the issue is now fixed.

There was a reply earlier in this thread by "Acebmxr" where a question was asked, (see post#2), but no suggestion was given, so at that time I thought he was implying that I "should" have the Flash addon! He didn't suggest removing it, so I didn't.

This problem does NOT happen on any of the other forums I visit WITH the Shockwave Flash Object "enabled"; it happened only on this forum. Makes me wonder why?

But, so far, "wassa300," it looks like you solved the problem. Many thanks indeed!!!
