  • CPU Cooler Question

I am building a new rig. I am using the Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD5 mother board. My question is this: I am using the Thermaltake Water 2.0 Extreme to cool the CPU however there is no plug for the 4 pin cpu fan plug on the board. How do you deal with this situation? One of the fans on the cooler I believe is 4 pin. The harness for the cooler contains two plugs for both fans. It uses a USB port and included software for cooler fan control. I am on the last stages of assembly now with only a power supply and video card to go. Was trying to get some input on what I see might be a potential problem.

    Thanks,

    Bob

        Re: CPU Cooler Question

Guys I mistyped my previous question. The question should be this: That board has a 4 pin CPU fan connector on the board. My Thermaltake Extreme 2.0 cooler has a 3 pin connector. Does anyone have any thoughts on this? I have put a question out to Thermaltake also.

        Thanks again,

        Bob

          Re: CPU Cooler Question

You can still use it,it just won't fluctuate in speed according to temps,I think you plug it into the far right of the four pin header so one pin is left unused

            Re: CPU Cooler Question

It will work fine on the 4 pin header you just won't have PWM control.

              CPU/SYSTEM/POWER FAN Fail Warning
Allows the system to emit warning sound if the CPU/system/power fan is not connected or fails.
Check the fan condition or fan connection when this occurs. (Default: Disabled)

              CPU Smart FAN Control
Enables or disables the CPU fan speed control function.
Enabled allows the CPU fan to run at different speed according to the CPU temperature.
You can adjust the fan speed with EasyTune based on system requirements.
If disabled, the CPU fan runs at full speed. (Default: Enabled)

              CPU Smart FAN Mode
Specifies how to control CPU fan speed.
This item is configurable only when CPU Smart FAN Control is enabled.

                Re: CPU Cooler Question

I did RFTM!!! However it did not address a 3 pin connector being connected to a four pin port. That was my question. Someone else here gave me the answer to my question. I appreciate the humor in your response so here is mine. RTFQ thoroughly.

Thanks for the help I appreciated it,

                Bob
