  • Can mobo cause constant BSOD and freezing while gaming?

I have been fighting an issue with my PC since i built it a few weeks ago. I have tried everything to diagnose it. Full formats with only graphics drivers and chipset drivers from the gigabyte website. HDD diagnostics come back clean. I have run multiple memory testing programs for at least 12 hours with no errors in both dual and single channel mode. I have tried 2 different high quality PSUs. All of my current drivers are up to date. Windows is fully updated. Heatsink is seated securely, and all temperatures are well below dangerous levels. All of my bios is at default except my memory timings and frequency, which are set according to the corsair website for my memory.

    I am out of ideas.

is it only in gaming? all games or only in certain games? if so then chances are your graphic card is at fault, you can test by downclocking the graphic card memory clock by atleast 150-200mhz and retest,i had a gpu that did the same thing,i downclocked the memory by only 50mhz and it was rock solid ever since

I have had the same problem while just browsing with chrome too, but much less often.

So far it has happened in 3 different games. It will happen when running prime95 after a couple of hours too.

what dram and cpu/vtt voltages are you using? did you manage to catch the bsod error code? 124 means not enough cpu or cpu/vtt voltage

101 means not enough cpu voltage

id try enabling xmp if your memory supports it,and try with one or two clicks more cpu/vtt than what auto sets

Re: Can mobo cause constant BSOD and freezing while gaming?

XMP made the problem even worse.

I am currently at 1.5 dram and my VTT hovers around 1.05-1.07. I have tried increasing both. DRAM was at about 1.6 and VTT was at 1.12.

It has been a while since i actually got a blue screen, since i updated to F17 bios i stopped getting blue screens and started getting total lockups that require me to power off the system.

Every time it blamed a different driver, and i rarely got the same blue screen error code.

are you at stock cpu clocks or overclocked? could try one level higher llc,for dram id try 1.55v vtt is about right but could test with 1.08v

Re: Can mobo cause constant BSOD and freezing while gaming?

Everything is at stock. No overclocking at all.

LLC is on auto, what would be one level higher than that?

I have tried 1.515, 1.525 etc, all the way to 1.6 DRAM voltage. The same with VTT.

Did you get this resolved? What is the exact BSOD error that you are getting? See the link below in my sig for BSOD error codes and their correction.

I recommend using LLC set to turbo and used fixed vcore.

just to be safe you shouldnt go above 1.2v for vtt, generally you only need a few clicks more than stock 1.05v

There is no BSOD anymore, its just total lockups.

There shouldn't be any need to use fixed vcore and turbo LLC at stock.

try with high llc and leave vcore on auto, llc might raise the idle cpu voltage ever so slightly also,it could be too low causing lock ups? idk untill you test, you can try flashing the back up bios chip to the same version of bios as the main chip but i dont know what key presses it is,it used to be alt and f12 at splash screen but maybe someone can confirm

if its solid lock ups like that it usually points to memory imo,but i could be wrong

Well im picking up a new ram kit next week since it is the cheapest part to replace. I just don't see how it could be memory when it passes all tests with no errors at all.

What would flashing the backup bios do?

I think its its Ctrl F10 to that and Alt F10 to copy bios to backup. I think I would clear CMOS and load optimized defaults and see wot happens.

Ok before we start to replace parts, Have you tested the system with 1 stick of ram and running with Optimized Defaults? Also try running memtest86+ on each stick of ram and each stick in all the slots then both sticks together. See if you get any errors during any of those test.

Although its not needed to have both Main bios and Backup bios the same version, there is some cross talk between them and having them on the same version has helped.

Yes conners is correct. ALT+F10 will copy main bios to backup bios. CTRL+F10 will copy backup bios to main bios. I would also recommend what conners has said about clear CMOS and load optimized defaults and try.

What is the difference between clearing CMOS and loading optimized defaults? Seems to do the same thing.
