  • Windows 7 Ultimate boot slowing

I've had Windows 7 Ultimate 7 64 bit version on my computer for a little over a month and as time passes it boots slower and slower. By that I mean when it gets to the Windows splash screen it acts like it's hanging up but after a minute or so it will go to the desktop and is fine as long as I don't have to reboot for whatever reason. I'm, running a 256 GB 830 Samsung SSD on an Asus Crosshair V Formula board. I have 16GB of G-Skill DDR 3 1600 RAM (2x8).

I've checked for maleware, spyware, viruses and anything else you can scan for and nothing shows up. I ran the Samsung utility and it shows the drive working normally and the Windows Experience rating is 7.9.

Any ideas why this is happening? It flew when I first built the system and even after loading all of my software it was fine. No overclocking has been done or even tried. My CPU is an AMD FX8150 not that that should really matter any.

my best guess would be a driver issue. There are a couple boot tracing applications you can run, to see what takes what time on bootup. (will try to see if I can find the link to them and edit the post)

What model of the board do you have? The first revisions, with Thunderbolt card combo card or the second revision? I'm asking this cause my board isn't running to smooth either all the time. It runs, but it's just a pain in the arse sometimes with unexplainable things.

I myself got the First revision with Thunderbolt card.
My advice - never visit a short-url, no matter who gives it to you. You can't trust any source at any time when you don't know your target

I have revision 2 but I didn't get the one that uses Thunderbolt. I have an asRock board with the same 990FX chipset and it runs circles around what should be a much better board in the Crosshair V Formula.

Re: Windows 7 Ultimate boot slowing

        Hi Guys
Funny enough my sytem is doing the same. It was booting fast and still does sometimes, but seems to hange for 10 seconds after the blue screen when booting (it just goes black). I'm using a 990FX Exterme 4, FX8120, 8GB G.SKILL F3-12800CL9-2GBNQ, ASUS EN7900gs vga and a transcend TS128GSS D720 SSD drive.
        I'm confused.
DJABBA did you find the link for the boot tracing app?
        Regards

Re: Windows 7 Ultimate boot slowing

If it's a driver issue there's nothing about it on AMD's website and there are no updated drivers on ASUS's site either. If I had the extra funds I'd switch to a different manufacturer, but I don't at the moment so I'm stuck with it for now.
