  • New rig issue

    Hey guys,

I just bought a new setup:

    Intel i7 3770K
    Gigabyte GA-Z77X-UD3H
    MSI GTX 660 TFZ
    8GB corsair vengeance 1600

I've connected them all correctly... there mobo has a panel for debugging, and it says: "97" which means:"Console Output devices connect (ex. Monitor is lighted)"

i tried to remove the GFX card and to use the onboard. It worked. I tried to install windows, but the keyboard and the mouse is not working on the installation process...

Not sure what's going on wrong here...the gfx card should work just fine....any ideas? :( It's driving me crazy

    Re: New rig issue

Try using the USB 2.0 ports until you can install USB 3.0 drivers. If front ones don't work try back ones.

      Re: New rig issue

There are no USB 2.0 ports on the motherboard :(

      What the heck is wrong?
Shouldn't it recognise the devices as 2.0?
Why when i plug the GFX card it doesn't boot up? :(
Though the fans of the GFX work...

The PSU is 600W by the way, shouldn't it be enough?

        Re: New rig issue

Ah. All the USB 2.0 are on internal headers, then? Some keyboards aren't recognized on these Gigabyte boards until BIOS updates, but honestly my Z77 experience is with the UD5H and not your board.
If you have any other keyboards I would try them, and for sure try both front panel and rear slots. I've been lucky with my wireless KB's but even some wired ones have been problematic with the Z77 boards.

If it were me I would work on getting the KB working then worry about the graphics card, if you can. Maybe a good CMOS clear might help-and it couldn't hurt.

          Re: New rig issue

          I've reseted them...nothing.. :(

The thing is to make the graphics card to work...

Its a MS Gaming Keyboard and the Razer Naga MMO Mouse, both USB...
The issue is more like the card. I'm plugging it and nothing works...doesnt boot up neither i hear that Beep sound. When i remove it and use the OnBoard GFX card, i can hear the beep and everything.

I tried using my other GFX card, the previous one, and it worked. It's more like the card i think...

            Re: New rig issue

Hopefully someone with experience with your board will check this thread. All I can say about the graphics card is try different settings in the BIOS. On my boards I've never had to change from Auto but maybe for your card you might have to.
But like I said, if the KB doesn't work you can't change anything. Better try to find a KB that works.

Telling us that you have a 600 watt psu doesn't mean anything!
If it's an el cheapo model, it might be part of the problem.
We need detailed information about all of your hardware.
Look at boondocks' PC Specs and you'll find all the information we might need.

I had the same problem, I hope you solved it since this thread is a week old, but I didn't see you post a solution.

The problem is that the bios shipped with the GA-Z77X-UD3H probably needs to be updated for the new GPU to work. My Z77X-UD5H came with bios F7 which didn't work. Same issue as you are having. I had it working easily with my old PCIE 2.1 card an ATI HD5770 but the MSI TF III 660GTX gave code 97 and sat there.

I thought it may be the ATX4P connector which is supposed to provide power for PCI-E cards but it wasn't, you only need that connected for 2 or more cards.

After I upgrade to F14 the card works, but I lost use of my combo/key/mouse in bios. Not as big a deal as the card not working at all, I hope they fix that in a newer firmware...

                  Re: New rig issue

I made an account just to answer this. I had the same exact problem 100% when I built my new rig. This needs to be here for people to see because I was panicking when this happened to me. Thinking I may have broken something.
In order for the video card(s) to be picked up, you must first boot into windows using the integrated GPU without the cards installed. Run a bios update to get everything up to the newest version, then shut down. Install the card(s) then and boot up. You should get past post now.

The board was unable to see the cards and needed a bios update before it could recognize the video system.

                    +1

seen same issue fixed with a bios update over on another forum

trying the latest f19j beta bios might help with your kb/mouse issue as might trying other usb ports at the back
