  • Gigabyte p55a ud4 freezing on start up

Hey guys I overclockers my i5 750 processor to 4.0ghz with a tut online and it's been fine since then noticed it dropped to stock so decided change the settings again, as I did so and restsrted, every single time my computer freezes on start up on the screen that lets you enter the bios that displays your mobo manufacturer? Anyway I tried resetting CMOS by removing the battery for 15 mins twice but no luck, also put a screwdriver on the 2 pins and no luck either, I think it's resetting the settings because when I do it and turn on the computer it turns off after a second, then loads back up just like it did if I edited bios settings before, can you guys think of anything else I can try? It has f11 bios I believe, thanks!

4ghz, I used the same settings as I had it running for well over a year stable, they are v.core 1.35 and vtt 1.229 and dram was 1.45 (I think) and as I said I used these settings for well over a year stable, now it just keeps freezing at the screen that shows the gigabyte logo and that lets you enter the bios, nothing respond, no keys nothing...just freezes at the screen and resetting CMOS has not fixed it....so I'm stuck and can't use my computer at all....even tried with 1 stick of ram but doesn't work either....Don't understand this what so ever..

you sometimes need overnight with a battery removal,it depends,so id try that tonight if you can, then i would try unplugging the ssd's and see if it still locks up in the bios/splash screen

none of your voltages are high/extreme so it wouldnt be that, something has either failed/failing or it crashed badly and corrupted the cmos

try those things first then we can move on to other things to try

I tried it out over night and it's still freezing...but I tried without both ssd's and then it came up with a blue screen and it said post error, and it let me select last known good....now it's rebooted and not freezing at th screen, shall I now try connecting both ssds or what?

Re: Gigabyte p55a ud4 freezing on start up

Right I hooked up the ssds and now it says the boot selection failed because a required device is inaccessible, and it's asking for the windows disk....what does all this mean? Says status: 0xc000000e
i don't have the windows disc so I will have to get a friend lend me his, but could one of my ssds maybe be corrupt and that caused the freezing?

What is the sata port name that each drive is connected to?
Also include the brand and model name of any optical drives in your PC Specs list.
If your o/s boot drive is the OCZ Vertex4, remove the Crucial M4 ssd and see if you can boot into safe mode.
A web search using: bsod 0xc000000e should provide some useful background information and some possible solutions.
You can download the win7 x64 iso file and burn it to an optical disk using another system.
Make sure that you download the version that matches your current o/s type (home premium, professional, ultimate).

Sorry I missed jims link above, what ssd is your OS on? If its bootung with that drive but not when the others plugged in it could be the drive being faulty? Or you havnt set the OS ssd as first boot device in the BIOS

Hmmm I think my boot drive is the m4 because when i just connect my m4 it shows me to select either windows 7 or linux as an option but the vertex 4 doesnt and m4 it is in the sata 2,5 and vertex 4 is in the sata 2,6 ports so both sata 2 not sata 3 as my mobo has Marvell controller which is poor, I tried booting in safe mode but doesn't work, it shows this screen now so I must need to enter my windows disc? Don't understand how my drive could go flat just from changing bios settings though, all drives were on latest firmwares etc.... Just my m4 connected shows this screen, and the second screenshot is of the vertex 4 which I don't think is my boot drive for reasons I just stated....

Now it's freezing at the splash screen again
I do actually have a spare motherboard, but I only want to try that when we have exhausted all attempts to get my system up and running, if it's a ssd problem then obviously another mobo won't help

Right I swapped the vertex 4 over and rebooted, then swapped the m4 back and it now gets past the splash screen and asks for the windows installation disc like in the picture I posted, shall I now just get a windows disc and see if it fixes the problem? I still have no idea if it's a mobo problem or ssd problem....

Re: Gigabyte p55a ud4 freezing on start up

Connect your Crucial M4 boot ssd to the sata2_0 port and leave it there.
                          Disconnect your OCZ Vertex4 ssd.
You will need the windows installation disk burned to an optical disk to attempt the windows repair.
If needed, it's perfectly legal to download the official iso file and use it for repairing your system.
You might need to disconnect all hardware that isn't needed for booting using the installation disk.

do what jim says,im still trying to figure out whats on your ssd's?? is it a dual boot with an os on each drive? or is it one with os and the other used for storage?

also check what firmware you have on your m4,the latest version has issues with freezing ect,000f version should be fine

You will need the windows installation disk burned to an optical disk to attempt the windows repair.
If needed, it's perfectly legal to download the official iso file and use it for repairing your system.
You might need to disconnect all hardware that isn't needed for booting using the installation disk.
Ok I have the windows 7 disc, I connected just my m4 and clicked the repair option but it listed the drive as Games so my vertex 4 is actually my boot drive, so. Then connected my vertex 4 but the drive was not listed, it then told me to load drivers, I pressed load drivers and it does infect show my vertex 4 ssd but I don't know where I am supposed to locate the drivers at???? And I have 2 ssds because 1 is for games (m4) and the vertex 4 is good apps and movies,
