  • CPU fan doesnt speed up much under load

    Hi
    i have the X58A-UD3R Motherboard with I7 930 cpu
    under Windows 7

    settings - bclock 150 mhz x 20 = im at 3 ghz
when i run the pc with Prime95 the temp
goes to 80 c and stays there
but the stock CPU fan doesnt go above 2033 rpm.
fan normally idles at about 1600 rpm.

in the bios i have it set to vary the fan speed.

why doesnt the fan go faster to lower the CPU temperature ?

i want to overclock a bit more and was hoping the fan would help to lower the coretemp..
( realizing with the stock fan i wont be able to go much above 3.6 ghz )

    thanks

Re: CPU fan doesnt speed up much under load

You are not going to be able to Overclock any more than you have with a Stock Intel cooler...

The Fan on the stock cooler is only rated at 2000rpm so you are already 33rpm better than spec.

and 3Ghz isn't an overclock really on a 930 CPU... the base clock on a 930 is 133x21 which is 2.8Ghz and with turbo enabled gets you 133x22 so 2.93Ghz... with your clocking down the ratio and bumping up the frequency you're speeding up the RAM a little but in day to day use you won't notice anything.

if you want to overclock better you need to upgrade your cooler. how high of an overclock are you thinking? and please don't say as high as it will go because you can get good air coolers that will get you to 3.8Ghz for 24/7 use for under $100. a good boxed Water Cooler could get you to 4.2 maybe 4.5Ghz for 24/7 use if you have a golden CPU for under $150...

it's a rarity to see anyone above 4.5Ghz for 24.7 use but when you do they're running custom water cooling kits that range from $500+ and are quite a bit of work to get setup and sometimes maintain if not configured properly.

So I'll ask you again how far to you want to try and get it?
