EAX support in Soldier of Fortune?

I just installed Soldier of Fortune again (gotta love all the gore) :D and tried enabling EAX sound support. I have the latest Win2K drivers from Creative, but performance drops by over 90%!!!!!! :eek:

Silky-smooth destruction turns into a slide show. Turn EAX off, and the game runs brilliantly. Any ideas on how I can improve perfomance with EAX enabled?

Wow, that's incredible - sometime must be seriously wrong for THAT kinda performance drop! :eek:

Has it done it before, on a prev install?? Are you setting it on EAX or auto-detect?! Does it detect EAX when you set it to auto?

Try setting the number of simultaneous wav to say 16 or so - from the max of 32. It's under the sound drivers or control panel somewhere (you may have a better chance of knowing where it is than me).

PS. SoF II Double Helix is due for release March 1 according to sources near me. :) Can't wait!!

You might wanna try the latest update from the SoF website. It runs fine for me, initial out of the box version i know has some issues with 2k.

Yeah, SoF II looks good, but I just bought RTCW so I don't think I could justify another $90 for a game.

Also, SOF has that per pixel shot thing - where if you aim for the opponent's fingers they'll drop their gun, aim for the head with a shotgun at close range, you blow it off, etc. RTCW doesn't have that...

Take it back, then put that 90 away and wait for Unreal2

if going by your sig is anything, is it befcause your soundcard don't support EAX? or maybe somefin to do with you using creative drivers, not abit ones...

if its somefin like that, then its prolly using software emulated EAX...

Oops - should have changed my sig - I now have a SB Live! (not Value or Platinum - just the straight Live!)

Installed the 1.06 patch and the damn game crashes on startup every time :cry:

Uninstall the patch, works fine. Dunno what's going on :confused:
