  • GA-X79-UD5, IRST 11.6 Hot fix - what does it fix exactly?

On the drivers download page for GA-X79-UD5 there is a some sort of hot fix for IRST 11.6 with very non informative description.
    Hot fix
(Note) After installed IRST 11.6 driver, please install Hot fix.
It's an archive containing 2 files for both x32 and x64 versions:
    • MSuSetup.exe
    • Setup.exe

I can't find any kind of patch notes for this one. Does anyone have any ideas on the matter? Is it a fix for random BSODs or something else?

When I tried to install Windows 8 right after its release I encountered random BSODs which, according to error codes, were coming from a SATA controller. I seen the same thing (beside other SATA controller related problems with IRSTe) on Windows 7 as well and it was resolved by not using IRSTe drivers like it was suggested in this thread. But the same trick didn't work for Windows 8 so I returned back to Windows 7.

Now I'm looking forward to try installing Windows 8 again but was this issue resolved?

There are newer IRST downloads from Intel. Version 11.7 is for Win 7 & 8 and
    I've used it for both.

Did you use it with GA-X79-UD MB? Because as far as I know such IRST issues were present only on X79 chipset motherboards.

Apparently, it's an issue for many motherboards running Win 8 and 11.6 IRST.
"Hot fix (Note) After installed IRST 11.6 driver, please install Hot fix." is recommended by Gigabyte for my Z68X-UD4 and my Z77X-UD5H. The "hot fix" is not necessary when you use 11.7.

I see. If it's common fix than it's probably not the fix addressing IRST BSOD issue on GA-X79-UD5.

Does anyone here have any experience of running windows 8 on GA-X79-UD5? Not sure if I want to try to install it again just to find out that it's still not usable on this MB because of the faulty drivers.

I am using Windows 8 x64 on the GA-X79-UD5 with no issues. I am however using version 11.2.0.1006.

I don't use Windows 8 much on this board as I prefer Windows 7. I use the same version (11.2.0.1006) on Windows 7 as well
