  • Longer BIOS post times with extra HDD's ?

    Hi All,

First post here. I currently have a Z77 Extreme 4 motherboard with a 240gb Sandisk SSD running Windows 8 and two Seagate 3tb HDD's for storage and a BD ROM.

With everything connected, my boot time is approx 25sec with approx 11sec of this in BIOS post. However with only the SSD connected (ie disconnect 2 x 3tb HDD and BD ROM) the boot time is much quicker with the BIOS post time cut down to 3-4 secs.

Is the above behaviour normal ? or can something be done to reduce the detection of the other SATA drives ?

    Cheers,

Yes, that is normal, HDDs take a while to start up, even if they are not the OS drive they are waited for to check. Some BIOS's had a time setting of how long to wait for HDDs, but I don't think our board does. In the Boot menu, set the Add on ROM display to Disabled, same for Full Screen Logo.

Did you try using the Fast boot setting? What did you do to get full capacity access to your 3TB HDDs, the 3TB Unlocker utility, or formatting them as GPT?
