Re: WaterCooling Ideas & Suggestions

How much are you willing to spend to have a "cool" system?
Do you want to go with two all-in-one systems to water cool your cpu and gpu?
If you are willing to buy individual parts for a custom cooling setup, you could also water cool your memory.
The main issue, other than price, is do you have room for the radiator(s) inside your computer case and if not, are you willing to mount a radiator outside of the case?
Hot pink would be cool (pun intended), but it's really up to you as to which colors you like best.
Are you aware how much work is involved to sleeve cables? And how much it hurts?
Send a PM to Boondocks and ask him to reply in this thread as to how long it took him to sleeve his power supply and fan cables.
Boonie can also advise you as to what worked well in his water cooled systems and he posted some pictures of his water cooling results.

Have fun and be sure to post pictures of your results.

Re: WaterCooling Ideas & Suggestions

Hi. ProfJim asked me to stop by.....

A few things for you to ask yourself while deciding what to do to get started in water cooling:

How big is your budget.

Are you comfortable with picking parts or do you want an AIO (all in one) solution for cooling the cpu. There are kits available that let you expand and build upon, others are closed loop systems and you are pretty much stuck with what you got.

What size radiator(s) can you fit in the case, and are you willing to have a radiator(s) outside of the case.

If you decide to cool the gpu, does it have a reference pcb. (if not then likely you will have to settle for using a universal gpu block)

Also when you say "put some sleeved cables in", does that mean you want to buy cables already sleeved, pay someone to sleeve them, or are you willing to do it yourself? There are sleeved cable kits available all ready to plug in but the quality varies. Sleeving your own can be satisfying but that requires an investment in tools and time. Many people find they do not have the patience.

The single best thing you can do is start carousing various water cooling and mod forums and look at/read everything you can find. There are many options available depending on how much you want to spend and how much time you want to put into it, literally too many to list.
Do the legwork then come back and ask pointed questions about your choices and we can help you sort through them.

Plug your video card in here and it will tell you if there is a water block available to fit. This company is EK, but if they make one to fit chances are several other companies do as well.

If the card has a reference pcb then likely there is a water block to fit.

First of all thank you for your replies guys :)
Well I want put a custom water cooling system and not a ready system
I live in a island so its too windy which means dust...Dust...DUST... :@ system filters failed i have already 7
plus 3 fans from gpu and 3 (2 from mobo and 1 from cpu) with no filter thats why want a custom cooling system(like ek or xspc you know) i will get rid of some fans b,c i firstly thought about an AIO cooling but i chage my mide when i see this :/

ABOUT GPU
( i want a full plate) but the ekwb configuration says that :
EK-FC7870 series block needs to be modded a bit to fit this card (plastic top must be cut at certain edges)

ABOUT RADIATOR
There is space for 2 140 mm fans in the top (280x140) of my case (there is a foto from the top side cause i think it too but there are not too much space :/)
So i think a flat radiator will fit (it must be as thin as a fa

ABOUT SLEEVING
I think that i should buy some sleeve extations for my psu cause cables are too long and sleeving is a painfull work for psu pc and for me :D look my other pc

About budget around 400 euros should be fine come on we build computer no cooking :D
I have a lot to add in this pc

LOOKING FORWARD TO LISTENING TO YOUR IDEAS !!!!

LOOK THIS SO COOL <3

Re: WaterCooling Ideas & Suggestions

Keep in mind that modding your GPU or PSU will void their warranties.
The "so cool" look is easy when you install ultra violet lighting inside your case and you use special U/V reactive cables, tubing, coolant and sleeves.
Do a google search using uv sensitive OR reactive computer parts for links and also look at the Images search option for some cool pictures.

Re: WaterCooling Ideas & Suggestions

For maximum parts life and minimal hardware problems, I would rather use UV tubing and a high quality, corrosion inhibiting coolant.
The second line in your link says:
This version is the standalone reservoir so no pump can be directly attached to the reservoir but it does allow you the versatility of being able to use any pump you require in conjunction with the reservoir.
I've done some reading about water cooling but I've never done it myself.
As boondocks said, you need to get familiar with the basics of water cooling, and learn about which components will work best in the available space in your computer case. There are a lot of good water cooling guides on the web. You need to put together a hardware package that will work best with your system. I think that buying cheap parts will lead to problems sooner rather than later. You don't want to risk damaging your system by using cheap parts or by having a system that isn't balanced, such as a radiator or a pump that is too small.

Read reviews of the different components that you are thinking of buying. As I recall, TweakTown did a packaged water cooling review within the past few months. The following links are from Cases, Cooling & PSU Content Archive Listing :: TweakTown:

This list goes back to the beginning of 2012 and does not include and AIO (all in one) reviews.

I'm a bit paranoid when it comes to water cooling because an unexpected leak could damage your hardware. My ideal setup would have the water pump, reservoir, and radiator outside of my computer case, but this probably isn't practical because the length of all the tubing probably would not work. I think that the best setup is where you are using the shortest overall length of tubing.

Even good companies sometimes have some products that are not that good. You should read independent reviews for each component. Once you have narrowed down your list, people who are experienced with water cooling can give you detailed recommendations. This procedure is similar to selecting the right parts when you are building a new computer system.

You need to decide what size tubing you want. Then the fittings you buy have to match the tubing size, with some exceptions for barbed fittings.
If you use compression type fittings then the tube size has to match absolutely with the fittings.

For example, you might use 7/16" ID_ 5/8" OD tubing. When using compression type fittings in this case you would HAVE to use fittings that match the tubing.

Now, the actual port size on most pc water cooling fittings is G 1/4. That would be the end of the fitting that screws into a water block or radiator.
The opposite side of the fitting could be either G 1/4, or it could be a barbed fitting or compression fitting that matches the tubing size.

Tubing size is often a matter of personal preference. Some people like the look of 3/4" OD tubing, some like skinnier tubing, some people have preferences based on how flexible the tubing is. This is something you have to decide for yourself. Same with colors, everyone has their own preference and some of that might be due to experience or based only on how it looks. The tubing size makes little difference in performance in most cases, unless the loop is very long.

Another consideration is whether you want to use colored or clear tubing. Some people use clear tubing and dyes (like Mayhem's), some people like colored tubing.
Most tubing is subject to clouding or staining due to plasticizers added when the tubing is manufactured to give the tubing flexibility. This can be especially disconcerting when after only a few months the clear tubing turns cloudy or yellowish looking. There are brands that are less susceptible to this and there are endless discussions on the internet about it. I personally don't use clear tubing so I have no suggestions.

About having to modify the block to fit? I can't help with that, that's up to you. Some cards don't use the reference pcb and that's generally what the water blocks are made to fit as the block makers can't make a block for every modified card out there. If it's only minor mods that need to be made and you can handle doing them then no problem.

As far as the cpu block, that's fine. Most cpu block's are within a degree or two of each other in efficiency.
