I am staying with my 2500k. I only play some games and wouldn't see any difference in upgrading.

      Re: Haswell Is Coming,Who's Upgrading?

Let's see, I went to Sandy Bridge from Nehalem for Intel SATA III support, and then to Ivy Bridge mainly for RAID 0 TRIM. So that's both for the chipset, and not the CPU, although SB was one of those rare gifts.

Now Haswell (or Z87 chipset) will have six SATA III ports, which I have wanted since SB times. But, Broadwell is said to have the first SATA Express support, and DDR4 support. Talk about stringing us along with features. I really haven't been hurting much for CPU speed since Nehalem, so CPU performance isn't my main criteria.

Overall, IMO my i7-2600k is the best CPU I've ever used.

        Re: Haswell Is Coming,Who's Upgrading?

I'm going to upgrade to Haswell, but only if it offers more features and somewhat better performance than my P35 system.
It looks like the Haswell Lynx Point chipset will also natively support 6 Intel usb 3.0 ports.
Who really wants or needs Broadwell's reported 10 - 16 Gb/s SATA Express performance?

          Re: Haswell Is Coming,Who's Upgrading?

Me. Already budgeted for it, and I will be transferring some parts down to my other household machines so I can get my wife's pc up to Z77.
Was gonna get a Case Labs STH10 but decided to upgrade to Z87 instead.
I'll probably stick with Gigabyte and get the next iteration of the UD5H.

would love to wait for IB-E but that's just too much money for me.

This go around sees more SATA III ports and that is something useful for me.

            Re: Haswell Is Coming,Who's Upgrading?

Evidently Intel still hasn't figured the whole USB 3.0 thing out, but hopefully it won't be any more of a pita on Z87 than it is on Z77. My case has 4 USB 3.0 front ports as well so I hope the Z87 UD5H continues with several headers onboard.

                Re: Haswell Is Coming,Who's Upgrading?

Why not, it's only money and I'm long overdue for an upgrade.
I'll probably wait until September or the end of year holidays, when prices will be lower.
I could live dangerously and upgrade somewhat sooner, but I really don't want to deal with immature bios versions.
I'll probably be going with an MSI or Asus motherboard, buying one of the higher end models up to about $250.
MSI has a superb user to user forum with several very knowledgeable contributors, I haven't done any checking for excellent Asus forums.

I really like the idea of having one or more forum contributors with Lsdmeasap's depth of experience.
It's now been over a year since he went AWOL from the forum.

                    Re: Haswell Is Coming,Who's Upgrading?

I can live through the immature bios phase easier than I can with board makers that are slow to upgrade bios. Plus Gigabyte has to have probably the very best repair service I've ever seen.
Asus boards have lot's of bells and whistles and are attractive but not what I need although if I were to go X79 for some reason it would be Asus.
Asrock I like only because of the CIR header which makes for an excellent HTPC board. Never owned a MSI board either but they seem decent enough.

Money is not plentiful, but I don't have any other bad habits to spend on anymore!

                      Re: Haswell Is Coming,Who's Upgrading?

the thing ive seen lacking on msi z77 is the use of cpu offset, maybe they will include it in z87

without it your stuck with auto cpu voltage or a fixed cpu voltage, then the cpu wont downclock itself at idle

My personal opinion,MSI is not good as Asrock.

                          Btw,
one more thing is that June release Z87 boards will be launched with C1 stepping chipset.
C2 stepping which fixed the USB3.0 problem will be in mass production in mid-August.
(So will be similar situation as with P67 series B2=>B3).

Thanks for the chipset stepping update, I'll wait a few months for the C2 stepping hardware.
I'd rather buy a somewhat "lesser" mobo with excellent support than a slightly better mobo with average support.
Naturally the feature set of each mobo plays an important part in my final decision.
I guess you think that MSI stands for Missing Something Inside.

Sticking with my current setup for the foreseeable future. I can see more HDs in my future or maybe more ram if I were to want to play with a RAMDisk or VMs and I suppose a second GTX680 if the next batch of PC games (I mean mostly console ports *laughs*) were to push my setup too much.
