  • Mushkin memory with Extreme 6

In looking at the ASRock website I couldn't find my chosen memory as being supported. Specifically it is the
    Mushkin Enhanced Redline 16GB (2 x 8GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 2133 (PC3 17000) Desktop Memory Model 997121R

that I purchased from Newegg based off using the PC Parts Picker website. In fact Mushkin as a brand is not listed anywhere as being compatible with the Z87 Extreme 6/ac. I haven't installed in my new build yet but any ideas if it will work? If it will work will I lose some functionality of the memory by using it?

It should work just fine really.

Re: Mushkin memory with Extreme 6

Well, since the memory controller was moved to the CPU by Intel in the Nehalem series CPUs, matching the memory to the CPU/mother board system has become much more important. Which is why memory support lists are now provided by all mother board manufactures.

The reality is, we see threads in this forum frequently where memory not listed in the support list does not work. That does not mean memory not found in the list will not work, but until you try it, there is no guarantee that it will work.

I hope that memory will work with your board and CPU, but if it doesn't, that is not unusual.

Re: Mushkin memory with Extreme 6

Mushkin memory is excellent and in the past they had excellent forums and tech support.
It looks like their new website Home - Mushkin Enhanced is under construction right now.
Their Mushkin Forums :: Category Index looks like it is brand new and does not currently have all the forum threads that they had years ago.
The Configurator - Mushkin Enhanced memory link appears to be from their former site and does not include ASRock motherboards and there were no links for Asus or Gigabyte Haswell motherboards.
Mushkin is my first choice for memory for my Haswell build later this year but if they don't get their act together I will buy a different brand of memory.

        Try contacting Mushkin tech support.
        Mushin note:

My 2¢, if a memory manufacturer's website states that specific memory kits have been tested and are compatible with your motherboard there shouldn't be any problems. The best case is where a memory kit is listed in the motherboard's QVL supported memory list and is listed on the memory manufacturer's website for your motherboard.
