CPU: Intel i5 4670K
HSF: Cooler Master Eisberg 240L
RAM: 1/Crucial Ballistix Sport 8GB 1600 (BLS8G3D1609ES2LXO) came with mobo
VGA: Gigabyte GV-R787OC-2GD
HDD: 1/SSD/Crucial M4 256GB
PSU: Silverstone ST85F-P 850 watt
Optic Drive: LG WH14NS40 Blu-ray Burner
OS: Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit
CASE: Cooler Master HAF XB

My brother had me build him a gaming RIG with a $1,600.00 budget. Things have come so far since my X58A-UD9 build and I haven't been keeping up with all the new tech. In other words - I don't even know where to start. I did put my water cooling system jumper on PSU 24 pin cable to make sure water pump is working. Other than that RIG has never been fired up.

Do I need to Flash BIOS before I get started with BIOS settings ? I know this may sound stupid - Do I install monitor cable to VGA or mobo ? Like I said its been awhile. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, wibujo

connect the monitor to the graphic card,unless you want to use the cpu's built in graphics then connect it to the motherboard vga/dvi/hdmi ports ect

set it up first and see how things run,then decide on updating the bios,usually the latest bios is best,things are easier now with a usb memory stick and the bios extracted to it,just update through the bios and qflash

Ok, the only thing that works is the pump ? Somehow you have plugged the PSU 24 pin cable into the pump or do you mean you plugged it into the motherboard ? You are saying that it wont POST ( Power-on self-test ) ?

Plug the monitor into the graphics card . Also have you plugged power cables to the Gigabyte GV-R787OC-2GD ? I assume the motherboard has a LED that shows what is happening and in the back of the manual there is a code for what it means

wazza300, This is a sweet little RIG - I might build one for myself. I installed OS and windows updates. Core temps are around 27c. Do you know where I can get a mild OC template ? I'd like to set up around 4.0 GHz to 4.5 GHz before I turn RIG over to my brother. Thanks wibujo

I don't know with haswell

if you ask boon or ace in the haswell oc thread im sure they can get you to 4ghz-4.5ghz

My internet was down for a week - so I told my brother he could take RIG home and install games on it. Everything is still on stock settings. He said he was having problem with USB ports not recognizing his game controller. I have RIG now. When I booted and got to desktop - it said the VGA driver needed updated. I thought I had the latest driver installed. Anyway, I uninstalled driver and rebooted and never made it back to desktop. I get code "A6" and monitor doesn't come on - so I can't get into BIOS. I turn monitor on manually - stays on 5 seconds with blank screen then turns off. Everything in BIOS is still on auto. I disassemble RIG and checked all wiring and everything looks OK. Any HELP would be appreciated. Thanks wibujo

did you do cmos clear? leave cmos battery out for 30 minutes?

tried with and without graphic card installed?

also try with dvi/vga/hdmi ports if you can
