Z77Extreme4 Win 7 doesn't see the onboard audio

    Z77Extreme4 Win 7 doesn't see the onboard audio

    I've been running Win 8 since Jan 1. Before that I can't recall if Win 7 recognized the Onboard sound or not. Win 8 has no issues. I have sound.

    I reinstalled Win 7 on the machine last night and Win 7 won't see the onboard sound. Nothing shows what so ever in device manager. All I saw was a media controller with a triangle next to it.

    Tired to install drivers but nothing happens. Both the Asrock drivers from there site and Realtek.

    Any thoughts on why this is happening? Has me baffled.

    Have you checked the bios/UEFI Onboard HD Audio settings? Auto? Enabled? Disabled?
    Are you doing a win7/win8 dual boot setup?

      It was set to auto. I enabled it and it should up but the speakers are saying not plugged in.

      Why is there so many issues with this in Win 7 and nothing what so ever in Win 8. I loaded the drivers and sound was there instantly. No hoops to jump through nothing

        Maybe it's related to the drivers you installed if you used drivers that are compatible with win7 and win8.
        Are you sure that you have everything properly configured in the sound software and with win7's Sound options in win7's Control Panel?
        You might have better results with an older version of the drivers that were released before win8 was released.

          Well this is pure user error here. I didn't realize I had a sound card still installed in my machine and the speakers were plugged into that and not the onboard.

          Evidently why it works in Win 8 is cause I installed the sound card drivers.

          So again pure user error here.

            Page 63 in your mobo user manual says:
            If you select [Auto], the onboard HD Audio will be disabled when PCI Sound Card is plugged.
            Many problems are often due to our overlooking the simple things.
