  • GA Z87X ud5H / Plextor SSD / SeagateST2000DX001 / dual boot.

Since if have problems conneting my Roland Rc300 looper and Logitech Harmonmy 900 via usb to Windows 8 and now 8.1 I decided to buy
a new Seagate 2 tb harddisk enabling me to install Windows 7 in dual boot mode.

It has been a nightmare from the start, let me try to explain.

I am using Beta bios F8 mod, my Plextor ssd is connected to sata port 0 (intel), when i connected the seagate to an Intel sata port, I'm not able to enter the bios.
So I connected it to the Marvell Sata port, then in Windows 8.1 I formatted it to 3 partions 1 for Windows 7 200gb and two for add. storage.
Installed W7 on the Seagate and later did a clean install of W8 to my Ssd.
But for some strange reason this motherboard does not like my new set up, what ever I do do I'm not able to get a stable working dual boot system.
I will go back for the offical F7 bios (no idea) if this help but you never know.

Also my Logitech Wireless keyboard and mouse sometimes have a problem to connect, I know the usb ports are still not 100 percent.

I wonder whether I need to return the board to GB, or is it the inmature bios? or does this mb don't like the plextor ssd with the Seagate connected as well?

My two WD storage HD's work fine on the Intels sata ports.

Looking forward to feedback and suggestion,.

    Tks kindly.

NB.: last week before I bought the new hd I tried F8 B and C but these were also causing problems I could to enter the Bios via the delete button.

So there seems to be a serioues problem with the reliabilty of the GB Bios and or I have a faulty MB?

you might need to test on usb2 or usb3 ports for your kb

there shouldn't be any issues with the ssd and hdd, does it work ok now or keep crashing?

      Re: GA Z87X ud5H / Plextor SSD / SeagateST2000DX001 / dual boot.

My remote logitech controller is connected to the rear usb 2 port.

Have now installed the official F7 bios, connected the ssd to port 0 WD 1 and 2 to sata 2 + 3 seagate sata port 4 DVD sata port 5

Nothing connected to the Marvell controller.

I'm a bit reluctant to now to install W7 clean to the Seagate 150gb partition for the Dual mode capability.

I did remove the internal usb 3 header for the two usb 3.0 port on the front of my case.

Your better off installing just the seagate hdd then install windows 7 to it,once done plug in all the other drives

Or do the same for ypur ssd and windows 8,just make sure the only drive connected is the one you want to put windows onto, then once done connect all the drives

Tks. for the tip, will give it a go.

Not sure but it seems this mb is more stable with F7 original Bios, than one of the f8 beta's.

                  Re-installed W7 and W8 seperatedly this weekend.

F12 works like a charm, prefer this versus the dual boot I had.

                  Tks. for the tip.

                    Re: GA Z87X ud5H / Plextor SSD / SeagateST2000DX001 / dual boot.

This morning I had a seriouis problem getting Windows to boot.
Checked the bios and noticed my new Seagate HD was not recognised, restarted got a error msge. IRQ less etc.

Retried and whilst windows 8.1 started it did not complete the boot up only when I removed the Seagate Drive 8.1
booted than I attached the sata cable and the Seagate was recognised.

Has anybody got any idea what the problem can be that a HD is not recognised correctly during the inital boot up?

                    tks.

Maybe try running W8.1 with the windows fast boot mechanism (energy options) disabled. It's caching stuff for faster startups.. thus preventing a clean boot.

Also you could try a new sata-cable.

I have not enabled the Fast Boot option, for the time being I have connected the Seagate HD to the Marvell Sata controller and changed the sata cable.

So far no problems, but to early to be sure.

Can cold temperatures effect the booting of a HD??? this mormning is was rather cold in my pc room 18 dc. normally 22 d.c.

Nah, you're becoming superstitious. That's very well within operating temperatures of HDDs.
