-Memtest86+ for 9 passes(8 hours or so), no errors. (Max temp 48 Celsius)
-Windows(8) Memory Diagnostic Tool, no errors returned either.
-Prime95 FPU/Small FFT test: 1 core fails immediately (Max temp 74 Celsius)
-Prime95 Blend test: Fails immediately: Hardware Failure, Fatal Error: Memory Controller error. (Max temp 77 Celsius)
-DPC Latency- steady yellow, ~1000 Micro Second latency

there are issues running crucial memory on gigabyte z87 atm, seen it a few times, idk why but id guess at poor bios support

if I were you id swap for another brand of memory and test with that,99% sure its your memory

Re: i7 4770k failing? or more testing needed?

In my general experience with the intel i7, i5 processors they are often not the issue unless of course in cases where during the build there are bent pins on the processor or similar, also voltage issues. I would agree on swapping the ram sticks to see if the issues are resolved. It was very finicky initially with Ram sticks, even though some sticks were on the device list as compatible. I use ripjaws on my ud4h and the F7 bios has been the most stable of the latest bios so far. I had issues as well with my SSD on F5 bios but I swapped it for a Samsung SSD and so far it's been stable. Since you've have updated the firmware on your plextor I guess you could discount that. You could also make sure your psu is working as it should as a last resort. Something I noticed as well, after using and burning the build in for a while, startup issues decreased in frequency. Once in a while I do get a cold boot restart after the system has been asleep for more than 24 hrs. Static can also cause boot up issues.

I haven't tried the latest realtek audio drivers. I quite prefer using microsoft drivers for it since I ran my sound through a 7.1 channel amplifier system. It sounds better to my ears.

Re: i7 4770k failing? or more testing needed?

Hey guys, thanks for the replies :)

Intel advised me to RMA my chip, and I did that through Staples(took a total of 3 days, pretty awesome!)

Anyway, the new chip has been doing well, passing P95, IPDT..etc.

        Thanks again!

oh well done, faulty cpu would be last on my list

they tend to be the most reliable component
