  • ASRock H61 BTC - Not Recognising GPU's

    Hello,

I have recently purchased an ASRock H61 BTC motherboard to be used for mining purposes. I have the following hardware:-
    • 3 x R9 290
    • 3 x R9 280
    • Intel Ivybridge Celeron Processor - 2.7 Ghz
    • 8GB 1600Mhz Memory
    • Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit

I have my primary GPU plugged directly into the motherboard in the PCIx16 slot and the PC will boot perfectly fine. If I add a second GPU to the very top port (PCIx1), it will still boot up but the GPU will not be recognised by the system and often the PC will crash. Upon restart the fans of the GPU will run at 100% and there will be no output to the monitor from the primary GPU.

I've tried plugging GPU's into the other slots and I have the same problem each time - it just doesn't seem to work at all. I have tried updating the BIOS to the latest version that claims to improve VGA support, but unfortunately I have seen no improvement.

I'm wondering if perhaps there may be a certain order that the cards have to be installed in?

    Thanks very much in advance.

    Hello and welcome to TweakTown.

Not to sound rude, which I certainly do not mean to be, but in this instance for a faster response I'd point you to the ASRock Tech Support form HERE.

I've read enough on mining setups to be a danger unto myself and I suppose those around me also. Using powered risers with those cards? Have the extra PCIe power 4pin molex connected? Like I said, dangerous. Sorry.
#1 - Please, when seeking help, enter the make and model of ALL parts that your system is comprised of in your Signature, or at least the model #'s in your System Specs, then "Save' it.
____If you are overclocking, underclocking, or undervolting any parts, informing us of this and their values would prove beneficial in helping you.

#2 - Consider your PSU to be the foundation from which all else is built upon. Anything built upon a weak foundation is poorly built.

      Hi !
I have the same kind of problem.

      All worked fine with 2 R9 280x on pcie1 et 3.
I adde this morning to news R9 280X with powered risers and it doen't work anymore.

I tried to change the order of the pcie I used, tried to change the risers, tried to reinstall windows (8 x64), tried to update the bios with the last version but :
it doen't work (no signal, freeze...) !!!

I have the same problem. I run one 7950 on slot one and it runs fine. The only place i can add a 2nd card where it will actually be deteced is in slot 6. I thought this board was supposed to be user friendly? slots 2,3,4 and 5 do nothing.

It "shouldnt" be because of my none powered risers, because the board was designed not to need powered risers. (Hence the 2 molex connectors on the motherboard and 5 - 1x slots)

I've heard that changing the PCI-E setting in the bios from Auto to Gen 2 is a possible reason, but changing it did nothing for me.

Re: ASRock H61 BTC - Not Recognising GPU's

While finding my BIOS version, I updated to the newest with the instant flash option. Suddenly my year old video cards are now recognized. I didn't think a brand new board would need a bios update that quickly. Sorry for the pissed off post i had been fighting with it for days.

Re: ASRock H61 BTC - Not Recognising GPU's

Glad to hear that the newest bios fixed your video card problem.
              Your frustration is understandable.

Newer bios versions often fix some problems with older, less mature bios versions.

Thanks for the update, your post will probably help others in the future.
