  • Asrock Fatal1ty 990FX Killer, RAID woes

Like the title says I recently purchased the AsRock Fatal1ty 990FX Killer and have had zero success RAIDing two Crucial SSDs, one is a 128gb M4 and the other is a M500 120gb. The RAID setup guide says that different sizes or manufacturers shouldn't be an issue but that you would loose the larger drives extra which is only 8gb.

Tried with BOTH windows 7 & 8 but with 8 I didn't try doing the BIOS setup to enable the Ultra fast option.

I have the drivers on a USB that was created by both the CD and the BIOS. (Tried both ways; version is same as listed on site)
In the BIOS I have the storage configuration set to RAID.
Boot to RAID ROM (Ctrl+F) and create the array. Everything looks good after created.
Boot to USB with windows installer (Have tried both Windows 7 & 8)

Neither installer will see the array. I load the drivers from the USB stick and everything looks fine but when it goes back to the drives screen it doesn't detect any.

If I delete the array in RAID ROM but leave storage set to raid the installer will see ONE of the crucial drives AFTER I install the drivers from USB.

In the BIOS Under "Boot" it sees the Array and lists it as an option to boot from with the RAID: in front.

    Am I missing something?

Also I am missing the "Fan_Tastic Tuning". It is not listed on the F-Stream Tuning Utility, nor is it on the CD or listed on the AsRock website as a download but its clears listed as a feature.

    Thanks for anyones help.

Update: It turns out it was the M500. From this thread: Two M500 drives in RAID are not visible to Win7 & ... - Crucial Community

So I replaced the M500 with another M4 128gb, built the array and the windows installer immediately saw the array. Didn't even have to install RAID drivers.

Love the board. OC'd FX 6300 to 4.7 with >900MBps reads and almost 400 writes on the array.

So others had problems using the M500 in a RAID 0 array, but Crucial did not reply at all to that thread, great...

The M4 and M500 use different SSD controllers which might be causing the problem. Mixing different SSDs in RAID is not a well known practice.

To late and not applicable to you anyway, but it would be interesting to create a M4 and M500 RAID 0 array, but not as an OS volume. Then see how well it works like that. The new AMD RAID drivers have been giving users grief lately, that may also be related to your problem.
