  • I am going to Start at The University Of Phenoix Online Computer Tech Training

I have been talking with my advisor from the UOP & i am going to start classes within the month or early next month & i have a few concerns first i am turning 50 on Saturday & i am kinda of thinking that it is very late in life to take on such a task BUT i do not want to spen the rest of my life wondering "What If I Had " and then not do this so i am gonna go for it all out .I have been building & working with computers eversince 1998 so why not further my knowledge & just maybe i can go & get a good steady job & make some real money but this means i would have to give up my disability & loos my benefits & i am taking a ton of Rx's that cost well over a $1,000 a month if i had to pay for them myself . I really do think i could hold down a good job working in a computer repair shop of for a major mfg of computers . I have alot to consider both way at the present we only are getting $742 a month to live on & this doesn't even keep all of the bills paid up & we are truly sick of living like this so it's time for change for me & my wife & i would like to know what my fella members think of me taking on such a big step at my age & health my family is all for me doing this & they are behind me 100% so what do all of you folks think of me doing scuh a vast undertaking at the age of 50 .Let me know

    Several things to consider:
    • What is the starting pay scale in your area for an entry level computer tech repair person?
    • Can you handle a 40 hour or longer work week, day after day?
    • If you can't work full time, can you work part time for an 8 hour or longer shift several days a week?
    • If a new job offers health insurance, how much will your share cost?
    • Will the company's health coverage be as liberal as your current disability insurance?
    • How much will it cost you with co-payments for doctors' services and medication?
    • Does your state assist you with the cost of schooling?
    • Is there a state organization that helps people with disabilities, such as a Division of Vocational Rehabilitation or a similar name?
    • Is there a state or federal program that can assist you with the cost of going to school?

Check the rules with your disability insurance, if it's with the federal government you might be able to earn up to about $800 per month and still remain in the disability system.

I really have considered everything you have listed & around here there is only a small pc shop & they have a good tech but i am going to make a better one for them or maybe work with Kenny on Computers I don't know if he has a degree from a school but i am going to have one & i have a very big choice to make & this choice can not be made lightly . I just don't want to spend the rest of my life wondering what could have been had i went to school we currently get $742 on my disability & that's all + we recieve a small lot of food stamps & thats it nothing else I must at least try to do something to get out of this poverty we both are sick of not ever having nothing
