  • Need help | EP45T-UD3LR | Xeon X5460 | 1600 RAM settings

    Hello !

    Could you please help me?

I would like to ask for help with some settings
    Currently I'm running a 771 ghetto modded X5460 in a P45 board.
I have 4 sticks of Kingmax FLGE85F-B8MF7 MEEH 2GB RAM moduls.

I can't find a techspec for them but the boxing says:
    DDR III 1600 Mhz 7-7-7 CL7 @ 1.5-1.8v 12.8GB/s

My goal is 9.5x400 (3800Mhz) with 1600 DRAM freq.
I don't want to hit the CPU too hard couse i want to use for the next few years
Yea' I know "It's 2014 MAN!" but i simply dont have the money for a whole new rig.

The problem is that i can't reach 1600 DRAM
Tried leaving everything at auto tried to set defaults manually.I've tried several other timings, voltage settings but still nothing.
I removed 2 of the modules and still nothing
Tried to raise MCH Core to the sky, even tried lowering it.
If CPU Host is at 400 and DRAM is at 1.8v it wont even POST!
the board should be capable of 2200+ FSB

    now its running at a pathetic 1520Mhz w/ 9-9-9-24 timings at 1.9v !
    SUPER SLOW

    Any advice?

    Thank you

May have better luck with them.
Do you think this rig will be able to handle it properly?

    Re: Need help | EP45T-UD3LR | Xeon X5460 | 1600 RAM settings

DDR3 memory with P35 and 45 motherboards was often a hit or miss exercise in frustration.

Many times we had to start with underclocking the memory at first and then see what it's fastest speeds were.

A lot of time was spent stress testing with all three Prime95 tests; small FFT, large FFT and Blend.

I would start with only 2 x 2GB memory modules installed at near stock cpu speeds
    • cpu: 8 x 402MHz = 3.216 GHz
    • memory: 3.20B x 402MHz = 1286MHz
    • memory timings from SPD: 8-8-8-22 where command rate will always be manually set = 2
    • DRAM Performance Enhance = Turbo might work OK at near stock settings.
    • The Turbo option should take care of tRD and the secondary memory settings with low overclocks.

The EasyTune6 -> Advance -> Voltage screen-shot needs to be included when you are posting your results.
Do not use ET6 to change any of these settings and close ET6 after you have captured all of your screen-shot information.

Note: With higher overclocks, Cpu PLL and Cpu Termination (aka VTT) voltage settings will usually be seriously over-volted if either of these are set to AUTO.

Static tRead Value (aka tRD or Performance Level in Memset) settings are sometimes set to zero in Memset if the AUTO setting is used.

Beta bios F12E description for all three EP45T-UD3LR motherboard models (date = 2011/10/14): Improve memory compatibility

My approach with 2 x 2GB of memory would be to keep cpu speeds in the 3.0 - 3.2GHz range and change the cpu multiplier and FSB to change the memory speed and timings. After you have several stable configurations with decent memory performance, you can then install all 8GB of memory, make some minor tweaks and then repeat the stress tests as you increase cpu speeds.

I hope that you are familiar with loading and saving bios profiles.

the board should be capable of 2200+ FSB
    Not very likely.

      Re: Need help | EP45T-UD3LR | Xeon X5460 | 1600 RAM settings

      Thanks for the tip!
Now I updated to F12e and experimenting with it.
      It's sure more stable!

Now I'm running at 400 with 1.8 DRAM Voltage
However it is not stressed yet!

      CPU : 400x8.5 @ 1.2750V
      DRAM : 2:1 7-7-7-20 @ 1.8V
      MCH : 1.24V
      only 2 mem banks occupied

        Looks like a good start.

        From a web search, here is a screen-shot using EP45T-Extreme, Q9650 @ 4.617GHz and 4GB of memory at 1640MHz.

          Seems OK
memtest86+ passed several times without error
and i did a couple hours of p95 also

          temps look good to me

i think its time to insert the other two stick and push a bit forward i will use this as a baseline.

            HI

This is my first post. I was reading and found something maybe will be usefull. I see in CPU-z image for the X5460 CPU the intruction ESS4.1 is not recorded. Since Im planing buy this same board and this same CPU I read some good information. I found when trhis happens, wrong lectures from CPU-Z, is because the microcode of the CPU in the Bios need be updated. If this is the situation most probably the CPU will have serius troubles on memory tasks.
