  • FM2A75M PRO4+, No video on boot

    Hello,

    I purchased yesterday a new FM2A75M PRO4+ motherboard (with a new athlon X4 860K, and 2*4Gb Gskill Ares DDR3 PC 19200).
However, it does not seem to work ; When I switch the power on, the cpu fan starts to spin but it does not display anything on the screen so I have no idea what is wrong. (The screen does not even receive any signal)

How can I know what is wrong / which component is at fault?
Does this motherboard even have a piezoelectric speaker and beep on startup?
Are the components even compatible with each other?

Here is a detail list of what I plugged in:
    - athlon x4 860k CPU , the cpu fan is powered on CPU_FAN1
    - memory on slots DDR3_A2 and DDR3_B2
    - 24pin atx power on ATXPWR1
    - 4pin power plug on ATX12V1 (the manual recommends an 8 pin but says that it should work with 4pin only)
    - nvidia GT430 on PCIE1, hdmi cable and DVI cable on the nvidia card
    - the front panel cable on PANEL1

no hdd, no keyboard, no mouse, nothing else

I even tried to remove the RAM but it did not change anything....

    OK couple of points.

1- While DDR3_A2 and DDR3_B2 should work, can you try A1 and B1
2- The manual says 4 pin should work, if you plug into the correct pins (1 and 5.) please confirm.
3 - You have to connect a speaker to the outputs on the MB, its not built in.
4 - Connect a mouse and KB, POST looks for them depending on BIOS setup and you didn't get there yet.

    From your manual:

Though this motherboard provides 8-pin ATX 12V power connector, it can still work
if you adopt a traditional 4-pin ATX 12V power supply. To use the
4-pin ATX power supply, please plug your power supply along with
    Pin 1 and Pin 5.

I tried to use the other memory slots without succes. I did not know that kb and mouse are needed for POST.
At this point I am a bit afraid to fry the motherboard. I was just being impatient and used my old PSU but I think that I'll just wait for my new power supply so that I can use 8pins because it seems that the athlon X4 needs a lot of power. I will also get a speaker.

I will then try what you suggested.

Also, I now see that X4 860k needs bios P2.30 . I have bios P2.20 and no other CPU on hand to test ....

          Hi Andri,
what chip did they send you?
I have the same problem that you, I couldn't make my asrock motherboard (FM2A75M-HD+) work with my new athlon x4 860K. When i put back my x2 340, everything is fine.
Even if I updated to bios 2.40.
THe graphic card fan starts and stops imediatly, maybe a power supply problem for me. I thought 350W would be enough.

            Hello

It should work with bios version P2.40
They sent me a chip with bios P2.30 and it works. It's a little removable chip with 8 "legs" that look like this. careful though, don't but that one because it has to match the motherboard. Also, as I said, you can get it for free from AsRock.

I remember that I had trouble with the RAM ; I had to use slots #2 and #4 instead of #1 and #3.

Maybe check your power supply or your memory?
            I have a LEPA MXF1 that provides 650W.

OK , basically, the chip just updates the bios, isn't it?
I've installed the latest version (2.70) which is compatible with my CPU.
I will try with a new X4 860K CPU(sent back mine to Amazon), and I will try to change RAM slot.
If it stiil not work, I think I will have to change the power supply

                Dear Selassie,

We provide some suggestion for verify:
1.Please referring to FM2A75M PRO4+ of CPU support list to install the suit CPU with BIOS version.
Some of AMD CPU (i.e AMD Athlon/Sempron family CPU) does not have integrated graphics processor. When this kind of CPU is installed, a discrete VGA card is required.
                ASRock > FM2A75M-HD+

2.Reinstall memory or test with other memory for verify.
                3.Test with other CPU
4.Test this 860k CPU on other system for verify.

                Best wishes

Waouh, thanks AsRock for this reply,
I had already seen the link you give, and I have an extra GPU.
As soon as I get my CPU back, I will try your steps.
                  Thanks.

With the new proc, it booted just fine.
I also installed the bios v2.70 but I don't think it did matter
